wheels

hey guys,

im new to the mr2 but have been autox/road racin my rsxs for the past 2 years

i had just bought 4 17x7 kosei k1-ts with 225/45/17 rt-615s on it with +50mm offset

rsxs and mk2 have the same wheel pattern 5x114.3

so was thinking i could just stick these on, later if needed get 205s on front and 245s on rear (i've been told 205s up to 245s can fit on the 7in width kosei)

just thoughts right now so i can autox the car.

pick it up next weekend woot!

91 turbo

Congrats on your purchase. Post some pics when you get a chance. MR2's come with a staggered set up so you'll want to keep the same. You can go 215's up front.

225/45-17 is too big for the front. I use 225/45-15 front and rear. Is the car lowered? If yes, then you probably want 215/40-17 and 235/40-17. If not, you can go bigger in back.

I agree with mpg that you might have fitment problems in the front. I don't know for sure though. I currently have 215/40-17 on in front and 235/40-17 in back.

You're definitely not going to want 205 in front and 245 in back. With that much stagger you'll understeer like crazy. 20mm difference is about perfect.

I don't have a MK2, but I know +50mm offset is way too much. Honda's use nasty amount of offset on all their cars. Most Mk2's use somewhere between +30mm and +40mm offset.

well like i said they already have 225/45/17s on them....guess i'll have to test fit before go any further.

you guys racing in bsp or sm? The guy said he has a jdm turbo on it so i believe thats slightly larger and would probably bump me to sm? no springs, this is what guy told me on mods:

"hks ssqv, mbc, cone filter, and an upgraded jdm mr2 turbo "

something about the jdm turbo being 50trim? I'm new to turbo cars so still needa read up on all that crap, saw that it may be beneficial to put in injectors, fuel rail and fuel pump on one of the stickies i think

oh and on wheels, so 17s are good? wasnt sure if the 15s or 16s worked better.....

well the thing smoked a ton when i gunned it in 2nd and 3rd so we decided not to get it but im bummed as all hell.

a good bit of blew smoke would come out as i was accelerating up to 70-80 and it seemed jumpy on acceleration like the turbo was chirping.....didnt feel as smooth as i was expecting....any thoughts

could be oil seals? head gaskets? piston/cylinder?......it is the nearest mr2 turbo i can find to me and the damn cheapest one
