AutoXing an Auto mk2

I was wondering how the gearing was on the mk2. Im considering getting an auto for many reason but would like to autox it occasionally. One of my subie people said that auto subies can run completely in 1st, are the Mr2s this way? or do they typically need 2nd?

Or if someone has the max speed for each gear, I could roughtly go by that as well.

if its auto just leave it in drive

For manual cars you never usually go over 3rd gear cuz of all the turns and downshifting and what not

*sigh* if you want to do any automoble motor sports lose the auto and get a stick. If you want to go auto-x spend your money on racing slicks.
a 130hp miata with slicks turns out faster times than a 300+ hp STI with out slicks.

I have autoXed an auto but that was only once in the my RX7 and the main purpose was to act like an idiot and make lots of tyre smoke. I have tracked it class racing and I just stuck it in Drive and smashed the gas, it was strange having no engine braking but it went alright. I know a couple people that race auto trannies in a levin and an integra and they do really well. It isn't a problem but a stick is more fun and responsive to input.

People never take autos seriously but I have been cruised past by automatic cars a few times and know that they are actually better than a lot of people think. Racing slicks are a good idea as well but they are not much good on the road (they are but expensive and rain means a lot of hairy moments) so you will probably need another set of wheels to chuck them on so you can swap them over as you need them.

You will definitely need 2nd gear with the auto if your going to AutoX it. I use only 1st gear for donuts. As for road racing, the auto trans isn't bad. Once you get a feel for the car you can work it to do what you want.

that's what my MR2 did with street tires. I placed 4th in the non BMW class.

Even a stock manual MR2 can be good. I tried driving my friend's S15 that is an auto... it worked, but it was being gay. Auto is super lame in autocross BUT it can be done.

just drive it as is to cut your teeth and see if its something you want to be a little more serious about. No sense throwing mods like tires or a transmission swap at the car if its something you end up not liking after a few times...

car should be fine as is assuming its in road-worthy condition

my $0.03
