First Autox

I worked on course with a first timer today and was able to give him some suggestions (I'm not smart enough to offer advice). I thought I would share some of those suggestions here.
1. On paper, make a large map of the course. Step off the distance between slalom cones and mark L or R to know which way to go on the first cone.

2. After each run, sit in the car and make notes about what you did right and where you can improve.

3. Pick three areas of the course that you think are the most important. Work hard at getting those three areas done well.

4. Leave the car alone. Don't buy new tires, new shocks,,,don't buy anything. Improve the driver first.

5. With your hands at 3 and 9 on the steering wheel, pushing up gives better control.

6. Always think in terms of braking points and throttle points.

7. Always have some of those 50 cent rain ponchos with you.

What else would you say to a first timer?
