That kind of prooves my point. English speaking ownership might get to a few hundred over time. Total non-japanese ownership might even creep over 1000 after a while. The number of available engines is going to greatly exceed this.

The sw20 variant is rare, and if sw20 owners are going to rely on the availability of beams rear clips to do the swap, then I agree, this swap will stay rare and very expensive.

Wiring aside, the only things you have to do to make a celica or other fwd motor work in the mr2 are:

-Get the correct water outlet housing, or modify the existing celica one. This can be taken from any 3rd gen or later 3sg(t)e
-reuse your old mr2 tranny, or drill a hole for the selector shaft and oil seal in the new tranny and transfer your shift linkage assembly
-swap the crankshaft pulley from a usdm turbo motor (you can make the celica one work)
-reuse your 5s engine mount
-use an aftermarket 5s exhaust system.

If you don't have to get a sw20 beams motor, the cost goes way down. I'm currently using a celica 2nd gen 3sge in my DD. It was a very easy swap, the beams celica swap should be similar.

5500 for that engine is absurd.

They sell for that because you people will pay it.

Once again, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to accomplish this swap for around 2k. I agree, $5500 is way too much for 200hp. With a little creative wiring, I think we could get this swap's cost WAY down. The engines are out there, and they are cheap.

It looks pretty easy to me. But I have had the benefit of doing the wiring for 21 mk1 mr2 4age 20v swaps. The approach is going to be the same.

They said MR2

I emailed and asked about this motor and they said it came from an MR2. I thought it was wierd that the lettering appeard "upside down". From pics I have seen of Beams installs...the lettering was always easy to read if you were standing at the rear of the car.

Actually, you're right. Look at the link on the 2nd one from PA Auto. The writing is right side up on that one. I'm betting that first one is from a Celica.
