Ebay did it again

Seems like a steal at that price.

Looks like it came from a celica. Not direct bolt in for the mr2.

Here's how I know:

-shift linkages are on the intake side of the engine, mr2's are on the exhaust side.

-Alternator is on the exhaust side of the motor

-The motor has a power steering pump

-The lettering on the valve cover is up side down.

So, this engine came from a fwd vehicle for sure.

The mr2's drivetrain has a few key differences, namely the shiftlinkage on the exhaust side of the motor, so there are going to be a few extra things you have to do to make this motor work.

In addition, you'll have to dig up a water outlet housing which will be tough, so keep this in mind if you plan on getting this motor.

I'm not saying the configurations aren't similar, i'm running a celica 2nd gen 3sge in my mk2, what I am saying is that there will be some extra things to consider. For one thing, the wiring isn't going to be a perfect fit.

Easy wiring would be the main reason somebody would pay $2500 for this.

that's not a direct bolt in for the MR2 as stated above for the reasons stated.

Yeah, this wouldn't be nearly as bad as trying to get a blacktop from an altezza to work. You'd just about need a parts greytop or redtop to get that working.

I know the blacktop's intake mani wont fit, but will fit with the red top mani, what else is there? Don't you have to move something because it slaps the strut tower?

I saw a picture of a BT in a mk2, and it does just clear the strut tower with the timing belt cover off.

On the altezza's black top:

The oilpan and oiling is different

the intake manifold is different

the throttle is electronically controlled

Hardly worth the 10 extra hp, though you could make it work.

I still cant believe you guys think 2500 dollars for an ENGINE is a good deal.

Tell me what makes the BEAMS more rare than a gen3 turbo motor.

Im ignorant to this whole BEAMS fascination. I just know that its overpriced like honda motors. Not sure why. Shed light please.

I don't think its a good deal. The various beams motors are probably more common than gen3 turbos.

The reason the honda motors are overpriced is because they can be easily swapped into usdm hondas. The beams 3sge doesn't have this luxury. While the number of motors is not huge, the number of people around the world who can make this motor work in any other Toyota is nearly nonexistant. This motor is an orphan.

The reason you see these crazy prices is because its being marketed to people who recognize the hype. If you came across one at any normal JDM importer, chances are you could get it at a very cheap price. They know that that motor isn't going anywhere. Me personally, I wouldn't pay much more that $1000 for a beams 3sge. If you're lucky, you might find one for less than $1000, cut wiring of course.

I'm working on a system for getting a beams motor in an NA car for under $2000. This is a very cheap motor if you don't have to have complete wiring.

Well I say that because Phoenix got his for like what? 500? 800 USDM dollars?

Shipping would be like what? A few hundred, 500 or something?

Why are they 2500, 3k?

The clips are like 4. Its insane. I just dont get it.

Actually, most places who can source a beams engine run about $5500. check out keithtau on ebay and the mr2warehouse.com, thats about the only places you can get a beams engine. Since this guy is selling one for $2500, that is a killer deal in the states.

I sourced mine for $600 bucks, with a full wiring harness, and ECU. But look at my location......im not in the states, there isn't a huge desire here for the engine because it was offered here.

In the states, the engine was not offered, so its a rare piece to have for a true MR2 Enthusiast.

Even though there might be demand, in some case very enthusiastic demand, there is way more supply. Look at the 4age 20v, at one time considered a very "rare" jdm engine. Even with all the people people who have done the conversion over the past 10 years, the price continues to fall. The total number of converted 20v vehicles is in the low thousands, maybe hundreds, the number of 20v's in existence is in the tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands. There are lots of JDM importers who have 20v's just piling up, thats why you can get one for $350. The beams 3sge, in all its variants, went into so many vehicles, I can't believe it is much different.

Now, the sw20 rear beams clip actually is rare. Somebody who wants to do a sw20 swap with complete wiring has little choice but to buy one of these clips. There were 1000 or so ever produced?

So, I believe the price of beams 3sge's will continue to fall, at least on the non sw20 motors. My goal is going to be to come up with a wiring solution based off of the 5sfe engine harness so that sw20 owners can more easily take advantage of the non sw20 beams motors.

The Beams came in only 1000 mr2s, granted there are other vehicles like the celica and caldina that it came it, the swap gets harder and harder with these vehicles which is why the sw20 is hard to get, and is expensive.

I can't see these getting any cheaper. As rare as they are here in japan, they are more rare in other countries.

Look at our english speaking Beams owners, we have what....20? Thats it right now, and I expect a new member every month, thats it. So other than Japan, we have roughly 20 people.....woopty doo. 20 english speaking people who have a common bond of ownership of a certain thing in the entire world, says rare to me.
