Upgrading camshafts

Hey guys, I'm thinking about a mild cam upgrade for my redtop, I've been looking at TODA cams in particular, they do a cam for the intake side that will retain vvti.

http://www.toda-racing.co.jp/en/prod...am/3sgs-1.html

Would it be worth upgrading this alone?? without touching the exhaust side, i'll have programmable ecu and full exhaust soon.

think yuo're wrong men... those cams are for 3sge not for 3sge beams

look correctly on the right side of the lift duration you will see that notice

''TODA VALVE SPRING & TODA ADJUSTABLE CAM PULLEYS required.
''VVT system cannot be used''

if you check that list again the first two can be used with the stock ecu, and the note "VVT system cannot be used" is not against them.

as the redtop only has vvti on only the intake side i doubt we could use the exhaust side cam as i dont think it would physically fit!

Does anyone know what happens when vvti is removed.. does the stock ecu still function?

cams for altezza

these are for the rz200 altezza ,not for the fwd beams motor ,also if you look it has 6 main bearing caps which your motor only has 5 plus the sync sensor is in a different posi on the camshaft compared to yours as i have both motors

ok thanks, i was hoping someone like you would come along and give an answer! even if it wasnt the one I wanted

I was sure from looking at these two pics, one from the beams redtop site and the second from the toda site, that the intake cam was the same....

so whats the physical difference between the intake cam on the redtop and blacktop, i'm not interested in the exhuast cam just the intake side, cause from every cam i've looked at and every diagram of the head the intake side looks identical, but i've not had the luxury of having seen them for real

I see what your talking about now

is it this bit?

so are they the same except for the end cap there, do you machine that off cause i could get a machine shop here in town to do that.

oh and which bit is the sync sensor... i'm starting to think its not worth the hassle

not just that

its also some other things as well that i do, not just machine the end off ,also the altezza ecu uses bigger injectors than the red top as well ,you would need to change the ecu to a better motec system ,you pay but you get what you pay for in back up service ,ecu soft ware up dates which are4 free and it can run all of the std sensors as well

ah ok so its not so simple, thats cool thanks, I just wanted to know, I know you can supply cams, but there quite aggressive, I was looking for something milder, just a mild upgrade from the stock cams and i could adjust the fueling with my emanage ultimate.

If you look at the part numbers, it is possible to use the Altezza camshaft.
