Beams engine block
As ye may have read, I had a big problem with my car about a month ago. My mechanic has been working on the car one or two nights a week, he's a busy guy and I'm not putting pressure on him to have it done fast, anyway! Here's my problem, I called down today to find that he has the engine out, and he was supposed to have the crankshaft out and ready for me to bring to get reconditioned, but he tells me that it's nearly seized. If I did get the crankshaft reconditioned, there's a risk of it still seizing. So here are my options, and what I need to know is whats my best option, and will these options work.
Opt 1 : Get a new red top beams engine from the uk (waiting for price for this) Opt 2 : I can get my hands on a rev5 3sge engine, and use the block, what I don't know is if the block will fit the beams or not? Opt 3 : I can also get my hands on an alteeza black top beams engine, and take the block off of that, but again, I don't know if the block will fit correctly or not? Opt 4 : Bring the whole engine in to be fully rebuilt, which I really do want to avoid, as it's the most expensive. Any other suggestions, help, advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Alan |

It seems that Option 1 is the most fool-proof. Not sure if it will be the cheapest, though

I'd have to say option 1 is the cheapest by far. Here in Atlanta I picked up a beams motor for $900. You should also consider getting a caldina grey top as well since they are internally the same. You could then part out whatever you have left over from your old motor to recoup some of your loss.
I'd hate to think what a full rebuild would cost outside of Japan. |

I just sold a Caldina Grey-Top long block for $1200CDN, as a reference point for you. I know ChicoRaceWorks has one available, I'd be scared to hear what shipping would be worth to the UK, though.

hmm, that's also an option by the sound of it, but shipping costs are very expensive I'd say. $900 is very cheap for a beams, I can't se myself being able to find one that cheap. The one in the uk I think is going to cost me aound €3,500.
I will be getting onto toyota tomorrow to see if they could order me a block for it, fingers crossed. If they can I have a friend who will be able to get it for me for trade price. Will find out tomrrow. Thanks for the help lads. Alan |

block
they normaly sell block with pistons and around 4000 aussie for that and the gen 3 block is different ,ps try to salvage what you have and get over size pistons or get the block sleeved to suit the std pistons ,good news most of the cranks from gen 2 up are the same so look for a 2nd hand crank as well
