Apexi PFC Brash Boy Spec.
As some of you guy's may well know, I recently took delivery on a Apexi PFC from Brash Boy. So I'm going to do a write up as requested. Now I'm new to standalone engine management so I guess you're gonna have to help me to help you to get the info you require, if you know what I mean
I took some pics today at work but it was a rushed effort during lunch break and the outcome was pretty poor quality. Click on the thumbs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see it will be difficult to convey which wires go to which pins n' stuff so I'm gonna atempt some kinda graphic represtentation using autocad at the weekend. It won't be an electrical drawing as such but hopefully it will clear it up. As the instruction manual is limited, I may need help to determine which plugs go where, when hooking it up to the car, plus this will also help me label the drawing correctly. Once I get it installed we can get the map values from it. Let me know what images you want and I will get more at the weekend of a better quality. |

Why did you ultimately choose the Apex'i?

Why that wiring harness has sooo much conectors?????? I think that you need to use only 4 of them. I think that it is only adapter wiring harness between stock BEAMS engine wiring harness and APESI PFC. Please try to conect some of that conectors to PFC to see which one fit and which not.

Nice work!
So I assume the Blacktop uses a different temp sender then our redtop version hence why they supply another one to fit? Definately have to look at these plugs more closely! |

I look on pics again and I understand the harnes... The shorter harness are to the stock BEAMS ECU and logner harnes with P on conectors are to the PFC ECU.
Does someone know why there is still need to use stock ECU? OR it is only adapter harness that you can switch ECU when you want. Then there is question why? What is writed in instruction manual about installation? Lander |

Finally!
I am extremely interested in this product, but as lander said, I have so many questions. I can't wait to see how easy this is to connect and any issues you get, as i believe i will be going with the same thing from brashboy. |

wiring harness to what? the powerfc? or the beams SW20/ST202 OEM harness? dunno what you would want to do with a powerfc harness without a powerfc lol, besides the powerfc "harness" is only a conversion plugs/extension/adapter that switches the beams plugs to something the powerfc can use.....

The best way to test this would be if somebody would just hook up a standard apexi blacktop ecu to this harness and see how well it runs. An aftermarket ecu should not be as picky about the missing vvti solenoid, that throttle control mechanism and the other few additional things that the blacktop had that the redtop didn't.

Canadam - It's more like the Brash Boy PFC ultimately chose me. I needed an 'out of the box' solution and the only other option was the C-One ECU which nobody has any info on. I could have gone Motec Or Link but their both high end, wire in job's which is more than I need/can afford - at the moment!
Lander - Correct, the connectors marked 'P' plug into the PFC and the other to the stock ECU. The blue sensor is a water temp sensor which plumb's into the upper radiator hose It's then wired into the fisrt 2 'P' marked connectors. ![]() Edophus - I hope Brash Boy never reads this forum I feel a bit guilty to be honest. They provided a great service to me and here we are trying to reverse engineer their product's.Anyhoo, heres the fitting instructions as they appear in the manual. Installation of PowerFC 1. Remove negative terminal (-) of the battery. 2.Find the appropriate ECU wiring location. 3.Dissconnect the vehicle harness going into the ECU. 4.Connect the attached harness (label "P") to the coupler on the powerFC. 5.Connect the other harness to the coupler on the appropriate ECU. 6.not important. 7.Install the water temprature sensor attachment into the upper hose on the radiator. 8.Connect the wiring of the water temp sensor to the wiring of the attached harness. 9.Top up the coolant. 10.not important 11. ^^ 12. ^^ 13. ^^ 14. (Self learning idle adjustment) Start the engine. 15. Leave the vehicle at idle with the engine running for 10 minutes. 16. During idle, turn the rear defroster on and let the vehicle sit for 10 minutes. 17. Same as above but with the air con this time. Data Backup 1. Back up the data after re-tuning the PowerFC. 2. During idle, disconnect the terminal connector on the attached harness. 3. Stop the engine. 4. Turn off the ignition switch. 5.Connect the terminal connector on the attached harness. 6. Start the engine. 7. Confirm the back up setting data. ![]() ![]() Not too helpfull then for a novice like me. Can any of you guy's be more specific as to which hose the temp sensor plumbs into? Also the location of the stock ECU, it's in the trunk under the carpet I take it? Pics of both locations would help. Last edited by nikk1877; 03-10-2007 at 06:29 PM.. |

coolant hose from the bottom of the radiator back to the engine, cut it (nicely, nice smooth edges, i will grade you on this!) place blue-T-piece-thingy, hose-clamps (DO NOT SKIMP ON THIS!! get the proper T-clamps that make a nice uniform *round* clamping-action, again you will be graded on this!), refill radiator with your blend of choice (coolant fluid/distilled water), hook the plugs up, go on and live happily ever after riding into the sunset..... ![]() EDIT: neat, they want it at the top radiator hose....thats kinda wierd, OEM always has the temp-sender unit at the bottom of the radiator.... wtf is this cryptic pic with the two ecu's???? i thought the PowerFC was the non-piggyback type.... WFX: SXE10 3SGE ecu does have some (many?) plug differences, which blows royally, 2nd O2 sensor, is the throttle by wire or still driven by analog solid piece o' wire like our RedTops? I suppose the MAF's are different, the injectors are bigGARRR....and i bet the SPD sensor will prolly also be different.....mr220v says to have no issues with the SPD unplugged, but my BEAMS runs way different/wierd/powerless with that thing unplugged.... Well this is kinda been on the back burner for a while but I'm booked in for a Dyno+Road map on the 20th April so better get back on it.
Was having a look over the car a few day's ago and came across this: ![]() Spy the coolant temp sensor on the rad hose thats wired into nowhere - appears someones been using this for a coolant temp guage??? Next question - Would I get away with installing the coolant temp sensor for the PFC in it's place? |
