Beams mk2 takes a 350z

So my wife borrows my car Sunday to go run some errands (comes back and the car has been driven 120 miles). She runs up on a 350z convertible, probably an automatic.

So the woman wants to race, punches it, and so does my wife.

The end result was that the beams had a few car lengths on the 350z up to about 65mph when my wife let off.

So, should this have been possible? I would have thought that a 350z would have been faster? Maybe not fast enough to make up for a poor driver?

If the Z was an automatic, it wouldnt have mattered anyway. Dude, the beams is THE SHIT!!!!!!!! It's faster than a stock Z for sure. My 5s with exhaust, intake, headers, fuel controller, clutch and flywheel kept up with one, and a beams could have totally beat that car! Hell yeah, Toyota for life!!!! Screw Nissan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the verts are noticeably slower than the fixed roofs. i was amazed at the difference. the vert sucks, just flat out. the fixed roof is a pretty damn fun ride though.

^yeah, I figured a hardtop 350z with a manual would be faster, or at least even.

You know there are like three different models right? Like the track, and two other ones, but each are different as far as speed. I think the faster one is the Brembo Kitted one (the track), but I dont think they ever did anything with the verts......I could be wrong but either way nissan sucks.

The convertible model is a bit heavier than your typical Z.

Curb weight - auto/conv: 3479lbs; manual/enthusiast: 3210lbs

It'll also depend on year as well, since the newer Zs have the "rev up" VQ with 300hp, and the 2005 and below ones have the regular VQ with 287hp but more torque.

Nissan doesn't suck, BTW. At least they have the right idea: the new GT-R, continued Z, G37 coupe, G35 sedan, etc. And they're all available with 6-speed manuals. OMG, what a concept. Toyota needs to learn that. Anyway, all are considerably more sporty than anything in the Toyota/Lexus stable. The IS350 and IS-F NEED manuals.

^The VQ is a nice motor, unfortunately it went into a car the weighs 3200-3500lbs. 3000lbs+ is a very big 2 seater. Seems like its about the same weight (and only a little cheaper) than a vette.

I've never been a big fan of the Z cars. The 240's are pretty nice, at least with an sr20 they are. I really like the old Datun 2000's. Even the NX2000's were kinda cool.

guys i smoked a 05 Mustang GT & WRX (non-sti, cant find an STi where i live to race with) & smoked all sorts of vtec's, last one to get it from me was a RSX (dunno what year/engine but it was 'type s')

our BEAMS's are leet, do a little work on them like intake/exhaust mods & mebbe cold-air thru an intercooler and we got that low-end grunt....

imma start hunting Z's and see whats up now...

You have stated something l have never heard. Has someone ever put an intercooler on an N/A engine ?
Does it work with positives or just wasted money.

Fat yes, but also huge power potentials. Not to mention, you can get rid of a TON of weight in them.

Someone is making an intake now that is an intercooler mid-pipe. Basically its a really long pipe with an intercooler in between the throttle body and air filter. Shouldnt really do to much besides look cooler than stock.

Kinda like my brother's Camaro SS. It has a pretty aggressive cam, and has been retuned, so the motor will actually rev. He beats new vettes.

I've never driven a faster car than this. There arent' many faster cars either.

it is a bit overkill, i just have it there bc im building turbo kit, makes life easier if the plumbing is already there

HOWEVER, i live in 95-ish degree (34C mostly) weather year-round so its hella hot here....what i noticed is that the air being pulled in right now does feel cold to my skin and the piping running to the TB is usually alot colder than it used to be....so nice cold dense air running into my engine

i only came to this idea after i noticed my engine running ALOT stronger on a cooler night with a bit of rain....so now im considering water/alcohol injection as well....
