Wanneroo Track Day - Test & Tune
On the 2nd of June I have my very first track day that I will be competing in and aside from all the excitement thats I just cant wait to get out there and go a lil nuts I wouldnt mind some helpful advice from people in the know!
Ive done my sway bars, lower arms and braces suspension wise. Springs are going to be a little let down as theyre too soft but will fix this later down the track. What sort of tyres should I be running? I'm thinking of putting my old rims back on where I have more tyre then rim as my current ones have a low profile. I'm running FWD so is there anything you can tell me to help in cornering etc while driving on a track in a FWD? Can I use the handbrake at any stage or should I stay clear of it? Do I need to sort out weight issues in the front or back before I head out ie (take heavy stuff out of boot or leave things in there to balance me out more). My main aim is to of course head out and have fun but some useful tips about different areas (driving, setup etc) would be handy to know in the back of my mind. Thanks! |

Find some used R-compound tires.
Flush you brake fluid...all of it. Put on fresh pads....good ones. Porterfield R4S at a minimum. Carbotechs would be better. Depending on the course, plan on using them up in one weekend. Make sure the cooling system is healthy. Make sure you know the rules and have the proper safety equipment. Drink lots of water. If you don't have to pee at least once per hour, you're not drinking enough. Do not use the handbrake at the track. Not even for parking. A late apex is a safe apex. FWD cars understeer. If it stops turning, quit turning the wheel further. |

Ive just installed a new Koyo Radiator along with Flex-A-Lite Dual Fans and have a new bonnet so that should keep the engine temps down! The track is harsh on the brakes so new pads and a flush before the event might not be such a bad idea!
Info appriciated, thanks! |

do a full cool down lap, if need be do one in the area behind the pits. if this is not possible let the thermo's run and bring temps down.
when you park your car after doing a few laps dont put up the hand brake. leave the brakes down and chock your car with something. after 2 mins roll it forward a bit, and chock. then after 2 min or more roll it back and chock. basically this will ensure you are not overheating one spot on the brake disc and hence increasing the chance of disc warpage |

![]() you might wanna get that high pressure radiator cap if you havent yet, perhaps a race thermostat as well.... make sure you have catch cans for everything, unless they allow you on track without them.... |

turning the wheel more will just make you break tire contact and go straight (into a gravel trap or worse...wall) take the passenger seat & rear seats out nows a good time to install a fuel cut-off switch or something similar to a kill switch |
