Beams RedTop Info request
I will be making a major move here pretty soon and i believe i will be able to find a beams engine for a project.
Unfortunatly it is hard to find information as far as modding the engine for better performance. I have found information as far as stock specifications and numbers but it seems there hasnt been very many people that have taken the engine above stock applications. This is going to be my project while im on my temporary - extended vacation. Finding, buying, and moddifying internal components of the beams red-top engine. So if you guys have or know of anyone with information who preferably speaks english or dari, please post the information for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you know some specs such as aftermarket cams or pistons that helps the performance please post that also. I am going to go all-out NA with this project. Possibly might lower the compression of the engine from 11 to 8 and throw a turbo on it. |

If you are going to lower the comp and put on a turbo, just buy a 3sgte, don't waste a perfectly good beams engine by turboing it. kind of defeats the whole purpose of getting a 3sge.

you add power to all motors the same way. add gas and air, and you wind up with more power.

its not 2cents as much as helping you
why buy a 5k engine and turbo it when u could have bought the same thing for 3? and in the process your ridding the world of another beams 3sge (the whole reason its 5k is b.c its so rare) if all you want is the fancy intake plenum then just buy it off a crapped beams or somthing |

You do realize that the BEAMS engine isn't just your normal 3SGE right - it has VVT-i

i think most people prefer not having vvt-i for turbocharged cars...i know the supra guys like the USDM 2jz better because it doesn't have the vvt-i or the ceramic turbos...that may just be people looking for big numbers though, i'm not sure |

why not buy and resell it for twice what you paid and use that money to pay for a badass turbo motor for a net of about zero to you?

thought about that, buying it and selling it. but i wouldnt be able to ship it back to the states. i would have to put it in my container when i come back which isnt for 3 years. And having an $1800 dollar investment just sitting around.......well my wife would kill me if i wasnt doing anything with it. I might pick it up and throw it in my 2 now and maybe rebuild and upgrade my current jdm 2nd gen. Just not sure yet.
if anyone is interested though, yesterday i did find a 1999 G-limited with 40,000 kilometers on the beams red top but they wanted about $17,000 for it. yes i did cream myself when i took it for a test drive yesterday. i would really like to do a redtop project, unfortunatly i cant find any information in english on it and the only mr2 specialists ive found in japan so far doesnt speak a word of english. |
