Of course! Never expect to get big turbo power from staying N/A unless you spend 10x the cash.

...ahh anyway, some rev 2 tubby's are putting out 200Bhp anyway according to some of the dyno plots I've seen so effectively we're already there with the BEAMS.

well i wont be trying to add up how much my na build is going to cost as i'll cry

but i'll be doing it in two stages, first just getting the otherwise stock engine running with itb's and a new ecu, so hopefully around £1k. I'm hoping to do as much as i can myself though to keep the costs low, if i need someone to map it then another £500 probably

and if that proves succesfull and i'm not bankrupt then i'll be building up my other head with cams and portwork, this is where it starts to get really expensive, i could easily sink another £1.5k into the head quite easily.

We've kinda diverged off topic by now perhaps we'd be better with a turbo vs NA tuning thread

How much different are the internals on the BEAMS as compared to the internals of the 3sgte? Since this thread is about boost, lets talk about superchargers. I'm patiently waiting for the outcome to this project....http://www.mr2.com/forums/mcs-motors...on-thread.html

My car is almost exclusively used for autox and this season has been an absolute blast with my new BEAMS swap. But in lieu of having a V6, I really want to throw a supercharger on. I don't need crazy horsepower, maybe a solid and reliable 300HP. Would I need a totally built engine for that? How much would I have to lower the compression to make it safe and reliable? Can I do this with a thicker head gasket or do I need new pistons? Can I do this on pump gas? What ecu would I need that includes control of vvti?

Im thinking same way 8-10 PSI should be ok .. and You don't need change compression , just stock internals ......

I just swap my beams

... next step will be ecu ..... cold air intake (custom prepared for SC option) , new exhaust .... fuel map correction (maybe fueling upgrade) , vvti correction

next step will be SC ~ 10 PSI ......

I forgot about S/C'ging. Whet do you need to do on the intake manifold side of things?

Shaun mentioned that the prototype is built around a gen III 3sge which unfortunatly is a totally different head design for our gen IV. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't most bolt on SC kits directly replace the stock manifold? I really have been looking into the SC root on my Beams motor.

That's what I figured -I guess you change the intake side of things rather than the exhaust side of things. There is a guy on imoc who posts as Goldie who S/C'd his 3SFE although personally I never saw the point on that variant. I think he got it working fine after a few lessons learned.

A while back I E-Mailed TTS Performance as they advertise Rotrex S/C's for the MR2 but never got any return correspondence. I also called Fensport about the Black top Altezza's they'd had with S/C's but they either didn't know or weren't going to tell me anything. So I never looked much further into it although for some reason I can't put my finger on there's something I prefer about S/C'ing rather than Turboing.

I've decided now -staying N/A. That was the point of me buying the BEAMS.

Cheers,

Richard

The Rotrex S/C's look very interesting. Compact.

I want put Rotrex C30 S/C to my beams ...and thinking about ecu adaptronic E420C .~450 GBP... they have already fuel maps for beams (possible download from web) .... so for sure will work with Beams

Adaptronic Engine Management ECU Standalone Fuel Injection

Rotrex C30 S/C ~2k euro C30-series

Rotrex S/C was done on toyota 3sge (3gen) and 3sfe and 3sgte : motortuning

Rotrex C30 in US ~ 2200 $ - Underdog Racing Development

adaptronic E420C 990$ .:AdapTronic:.

Pretty compact unit. Very little modification would be required if you had no air con and got rid of the compressor.
I wonder if they are able to use an extension arm so the unit could be put on the other side. Either way was informed the beams could easily handle a 6 pound boost with no internal work or remapping necessary. Dont know how many horses that would be though.

Some info from Adaptronic:

########################

We did not do the installation on the 3sge beams engine, however I have contacted the person who did and will let you know how it went as soon as I find out the information.

Thank you
