Impression of the BEAMS
Well l have started to take up the RPM's. 5,500.
Taking it slowly. I liked my previous engine a lot , It was the most pwerful 3SGE N/A before the Beams. Well im totally over the moon with BEAMS . It spins up like no tomorrow and just wants to keep going. Its got a nicer sound with a lot of pull. Its a wonderful engine with constant power with no lag and no flat spots at all. Toyota should have made this engine readiliy available on all export MR2's ! The engine is simple and nicely layed out. Will l be chasing more power l dont think so. For a week /end car and no track it has the power im happy with. Finally ,even though it has only a bit more power than my previous engine. l feel it and Totally glad to have put it in. This is without a doubt one of Toyotas finest engines and simply at home in the MR2 ![]() |

Its a shame that the MR2 didnt evolve to a new modern version and get the BEAMS
like European cars EVOLVE.Instead opting for a completely different approach. Hopefully one day they might have a new car based on the AW11, SW20. DAM they dont even have a sports car anymore????????? Oh well ill enjoy my MR2 AND wait to see what TOYOTA comes up with when they finally get sick and tired of COROLLAS ![]() |

Opening up the engine now. Very impressed !
The rush of power and speed is so very impressive for a 2 litre engine and N/A ....... It sings at 5,000 and wants to just keep going. Whats also amazing is that 5 th gear at 3,000 rpm pulls sooooo strong.Toyota should have released this engine instead of the turbo. It has no lag and just sings. Up to now its been very hot down here. Took her for a drive in the cold night and man goes even better. Wont be doing any modifications just happy as it is. GO BEAMS !!!!!!!!! Surprised the local Toyota dealership today. The first time they have seen my car or a Beams engine. Took their main mechanic for a spin and wouldnt/couldnt believe that it was a stock 2 lt Toyota engine. Really he cant wait to service it but unfortunately l informed him that l was going to do all the servicing. She will get an oil change every 3,000 or 3 months. Pedandic may be but l want to preserve her. Car is nearly put together and ill post some pictures.Dam the trim is tricky with a lot of swearing !!!!!!!!!! But love those STAINLESS STEEL plates with the original plastic sill trims, they just snap into position. Forget about retrofiting get the original peices. Have all the trim on now. Just as nimble as befor minus all the road noise just the sound of the sweet engine. It feels better balanced.

Dude, what speed you doing -3,000rpm in 5th and it pulls? PM'd. Just wait till you run the engine in. It's an awesome engine -and I'm reliably informed that it's a very "interesting" drive in comparison to a rev 3 tubby (wink).

...but seriously, personally I came to realise, the point of the BEAMS seems to be quick pick-up, in a low gear, keep it revving and red-line it, so turbo isn't quite right for this engine for me -it kinda ticks allot of the boxes without one. Unless you're looking for monster Bhp that is -and a bit of turbo lag. |

my thinking was could have the same low end as mid to small turbo 3sgte
and still rev decent 7200 to 8000 tops not dropping much if any at redline this is what i was hoping anyway I have plans of this myself oneday. 150ft.lbs. or more bye 2250 or so with nice 400-420whp @6500 to redline or somewhere in there might not ever happen i guese |

Passed the 2,000 mark and starting to rev her.
First to second at 7,000 rpm is so good . Its change is like a hot knife going through butter. Second to third is unreal and im already doing speed limit ![]() I'll have to go on a track to exersise the other gears. What i found is you can easily drive it like a corolla and keep fuel usage down. Its smooth. If you race it well you can stay in 2nd gear. When pussed l feel a sudden urge of power when it hits 4,000 rpm and wants to just keep going ![]() Its like a turbo feeling coming on . So far very well balanced. Gave her , her first wash 3 months after the paint job just to make sure it was fully cured Applied the Megurers NXT . Unbelievable product ! Ive had $500 waxes before but this product is very good. No powder , streaks. Very shiny and slippered on the paint without the wax feeling. Its my new friend. Bugs just simply wipe off ![]() |

yeah that surge of power around 4000 rpm is addicting, imagine what it would be like with a little turbo action

I don't know what we mean by low end? If anything, off the line, the beams feels better. No turbo lag.
I don't think I'd want to turbo the beams. Others might though. All things considered, I would take a beams 3s over most of the common v6 swaps. |

After experiencing the BEAMS first hand l find it also hard to want to do anything with it.
Happy with the power. Especially that this is a new engine and cost a ---- load l wouldnt want to experiment with it. I would recommend anyone doing a swap to first see it running in their car before doing any mods as you might well be suprised with it ( im sure you will be ) then reassess if more power is really what you want. |

well i had a 5sfe turbo before so hence my addiction....but this engine is way more boost friendly bc of the head design...i really wanna try it now after seeing the successes with swapping over to the 1zz-fe power fc....

Instead of a turbo how about boring out the engine to 2.2 liters ? what would that gain ?

I don't think that would work. The previa motor sits flat and looks like this:
eBay Motors: 94-97 Toyota Previa 2.4L 2TZFZE Supercharged Engine v (item 300211388274 end time Apr-04-08 15:06:26 PDT) I don't think the Previa motors have too much in common with any other toyota motor. |
