Here's a reasonably priced beams

eBay Motors: JDM Toyota Celica ST202 3SGE Beams Engine Transmission (item 140231796244 end time May-16-08 19:00:46 PDT)

From a good vendor too. If you wait till the last minute to bid, you can probably snag this for under $2000.

How much work needs to go into converting that transmission to fit in my 94?

I would hope that more beams swap sets get priced this way.

More beams motors will be coming on the market in the next few years as more of these motors get into that 10 year "sweet spot".

don't tell her like I did

or be evil about it, turn off our fuel pump, and tell her the car won't start and you need a new engine.

I bought it!!! Sorry Servin. In truth though, I already had my eye on it before mr220v posted this(or atleast before I saw he posted it...) I'm going to mention to them that if they get anymore in they will sell quick.

Ok, now all my questions will really begin!

1. First, mr220v, I will be needing a harness for my 94. I'll contact you when I get the engine. Will you need my existing harness or the harness that is coming with the beams?

2. I don't intend to replace the clutch or flywheel during the swap. I don't plan on installing the beams fuel pump either. Bad idea?

3. New timing belt and water pump(16100-79225?). Where can I find them? Anything else I should replace before I put it in?

4. Do I need to use those axle stubs for the LSD transmission?

5. What do I need to do to make the transmission work? Same kind of a re-drill and swap that the E153s need?

6. What things will I need to put this in my 94? I thought I remember a thread on this, but I can't seem to find it now. I remembered a thread that said all you really need are some water inlets. Is the following it?

Water Inlet = 16333-88460
Water Inlet Gasket= 16331P=90301-40005
Water Inlet main (where sensors go)= 16331=16304-88561
Water Inlet main= 16341-88460

Thanks everyone! I intend to do a step by step blog on the swap progress once I start. This will be my first swap, so my deadline is August 1st. We'll see how it goes.

1. I need the engine harnesses from both the beams and your 94. If you don't want to send me your 94's harness, you can use a 93's as a substitute.

2. You'll at least want to look at the clutch before you install the motor. I've seen people install the motor as-is, and end up with a slipping clutch. The clutch on my beams was a pancake.
The fuelpump...i'm getting by on my original fuelpump. Some 3sgte swaps get by with stock NA pumps, which seems like it would be more dangerous than the beams. I'd say if they are giving you the pump, unless yours is new or something, I'd go ahead and use it. It's easier to drop the tank with the motor out anyway.

3. Ask phoenix for a new belt and waterpump.

4. You can just reuse you existing mr2 axles

5. The redrill is similar to what's seen here:

MKI MR2 Write-ups

6. The lower part of the water outlet housing, along with the gasket, is the only special part you need. The upper part is the same on usdm 3sgte's. In addition, an mr2's Bpipe is nice to get, but the celica's should be easy enough to use.

I hope Jhot starts importing more of these. They are probably getting this stuff for $800 or so in Japan, so at $2000, they are making money.

Servin, you might actually call Jhot and see if they will sell you one for the same price when you are ready. Most likely they will have more at some point. Especially if they see that there is intrest

Yea thanks for that great idea mr220v, I dont hate you anymore! When im ready ill give them a call and see if they have another one or see if they can obtain one for around the same price. On another hand you really think they got ahold of all that for $800? Its quite bit of stuff...

J would check everything before installing. Pumps , belts, clutch ( i'ld replace that and cover }. Your fly wheel might be rusted up also , so grind it or get a lightened one. Check all the bolts with regards to all the pullies , exhaust covers and see if they are rusted. In the future you might need to take them off and it will be a bugger to undo them with the engine in and they have rusted in place. Remember its an iron block not alloy.
Congratulations you have a good buy. As said Phoenix can get to everything , just be nice to him

My head mechanic at my work told me today that Japan wants to impose a tax on certain export items to include engines out of the country. The tax is something like 20% because the cost of the ports that are ran by the Government of Japan.

I don't think these engines will be getting any cheaper. I would highly recommend purchasing these engines now before this rule goes into effect and the price goes up in the future.
