Toyota Concept Vehicles -- FT-HS

Toyota is stating a hybrid V6 near 400 hp. But as we know concept doesn't always mean production.

Yeh saw that one also at Aussie motor show but looks like its only a concept , crowd drawer
BMW has just show a rear engine car. Its a shame because what BMW shows ALWAYS makes it to production

Well its official the world gets hosed on a new Toyota but gets a New Subaru! Japan will be the only country to get the Toyota version and not the Subaru. Only difference between models will be purely cosmetic. It will be released in 2011 feature RWD powered by a 2.0L Boxer motor pushing 220hp mated to a STI 6-spd. It wont be lightweight though weighing in at 2866lbs. Though it can be considered lightweight today as the amount of cars with a weight below this is getting scarce with me safety and emissions standards. One thing ill say i like it a hell of a lot more than the Toyota concept so far. Its much better looking and the Orange is Hot!

Toyota-Subaru Rear-Wheel-Drive Coupe in the Works

Date posted: 05-27-2008

TOKYO — As if paying homage to Subaru, Toyota is co-developing a new lineup of rear-wheel-drive sporty coupes employing a revised version of the Subaru Impreza's platform, boxer engine and transmission. Toyota's largest contribution to the mix will be product planning and its impeccable quality control.

The Toyota model, still to be named, will be sold exclusively in Japan, while the Subaru-badged model will be marketed worldwide. The mechanical package will be identical, but both Toyota and Subaru will create exterior designs to differentiate their cars from each other.

The basis for this new radical project is to take Subaru's well-known 4WD powertrain and modify it to create a new rear-wheel-drive setup. Slated to be built at Subaru's Gunma plant in Japan, both Toyota and Subaru models will employ a revised version of the naturally aspirated boxer 2.0-liter unit generating around 220 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox from the current Impreza WRX STI.

Surprisingly, the joint Toyota-Subaru R&D team has chosen the out-of-production, front-wheel-drive Honda Integra Type R as its benchmark, because its styling, performance parameters and dimensions mirror what the development team wants to create.

Expected to ride on a 103-inch wheelbase, the 2,866-pound coupes will use a 2+2 seating configuration.

Slated for a late 2011 debut, the coupes are expected to be priced starting just under $20,000.

What this means to you: Good times on the horizon for fans of low-end rear-wheel-drive coupes. — Peter Lyon, Correspondent

The word on the street is the new car will be badged a Scion, not toyota It will only be branded a toyota in Japan were Scion does not exist and will possibly be the tC's replacement which was hinted at by a scion corperate guy @ a show in cali I attended. But all hearsay.

And the typeR is a STELLAR benchmark, it was one heck of a car and still is by todays standards. I am not a honda / acura fan, in fact I actually dislike honda & acura, but they did make a very nice car that handled great and was generally good in all respects.

The funny part is, that article you linked is a COPY of an autoblog article which is the inquirer of auto news *LOL* No telling what is going to come out of all this, but bet your @rse it is going to be a sweet, 2 door, affordable RWD toy just like the old ae86 was.

Toyota also sent r&d guys to talk with the club 4ag guys on what they want out of the car, they would not have done that if they did not plan to export the car

I dunno if it'll be badged a Scion seeing as how it already has a Suby badge on it? Though that still is a concept pic... However gets though will get a major sales boost thats guaranteed.

I just hate that all of the new "sports cars" are v something and usuly FWD. I miss the good ol inline 6 and turbo motors. and we always have the IS-F, and new supra coming...a new gt4 would be killer.

But the poor mans sports cars are dieing
