Redtop for a decent price
Shown here:
eBay Motors: JDM TOYOTA 3S-GE REDTOP BEAM VVTI 5SPEED ENGINE SWAP (item 250278888706 end time Aug-11-08 14:50:02 PDT) It's as good a price for a swap as I've seen in a while. |

^No lag, mechanically simpler, lighter, doesn't require a clip, you can use s54 axles, helical lsd, etc.....
Right now the price on this swap is just a little cheaper than doing a gen2 3sgte, but I would expect that when more of these motors start coming on the market, accomplishing this swap for under $1500 should be possible. It could get to be like doing a gen3 3sge swap, except more power. Right now there's a place here in Atlanta selling gen3's for $500. A gen3 would get you pretty close to usdm 3sgte performance, especially 150k 3sgte performance. Last edited by mr220v; 08-06-2008 at 02:59 PM.. |

Excellent! I'm saving to get me one in the near future. I'm not experienced with wiring harness's but when I get one I guess you would be the man to talk to. Plenty of help here on the board! Cant wait!

- alternator need to be replaced - A/C compressor also need to be replaced - you couldn't use the celicas water outlet, but you can use the gen3 3SGE from an MR - tranny mechanics need to be rotated 180 degrees - plus wiring hell ![]() (I have a Celica and my BEAMS came from an MR) |

Why would the A/C and ALT need to be replaced. I have installed the ALT in that location for a MK1 3SGTE and it worked great. The compressor should be the same. As long as the A/C lines bolt up and seal it should work.

A/C compressor don't need to be replaced... they need to be removed.... get those crappy things out of the car... they have no use lol you can use the celica water outlet, you will only need to modify your normal water lines and add a filler neck in the engine lid (that's what I did, works perfectly for the last 2 years) tranny really need to be changed but you can use the normal s54 (5sfe tranny) and the normal e153 or e153 lsd both from the 3sgte engines and they work perfectly (I tried both ones) |

I called them to ask about the ebay ad that showed that someone else won the ad. They had already shipped the motor set to me and said that they had another one that they sold to you. Lets compare pics and see who got that one in the ad. I had them send me extra pics of under the oil cap so lets see if I get a different engine.

But then it looks like it's easier to fit the BEAMS from a Celica to the MR then the other direction ![]() |

I have seen you post many times with questions, and I know that you have a few more parts than I do. I am in need of the maintenance parts and that will be the thing that will slow me down. Any advice on where to get the stuff like-
T-belt cam and front and rear crank seal w/p v/c gasket and stock clutch. I will send pics of the engine when I recieve it later next week. We should compare. Brad. |

For aftermarket choices on the t-belt there is hks and c-one. I think missing one but I forget. I know nengun performance carries the c-one belt and I think that dave carries it at the mr2 store. The hks you'll have to search for. The aftermarket ones supposedly offer beefier belts than oem.
For any oem parts I would contact dave. He is member here that is over in japan and is in good contact with toyota. He also runs the mr2 store on this board so you can post any requests in that section or pm him. His screen name is phoenix but he is currently busy at his current job so be patient if you don't get a immediate response. The part numbers for the water pump, timing belt, valve cover gasket, clutch are on the parts number sticky at the top of this forum. For the seals give mandalay a pm. He is the only know person to have a translated copy of a service manual that covers the beams motor. Also you can use a 5sfe clutch but you need a 3sge flywheel and pressure plate. Def do that and when I get mine I'll be sure to post pics aswell. I'm curious about the turbo manifold mentioned in the descripton though I'm sure it was a mid type but it would be funny if one of us got one. Last edited by Servin; 08-08-2008 at 06:24 PM.. |

Got the engin today!!!!!! I am in need of a P/N. The VVTI controller is broken and I think that I found it but could someone check? It is the sensor that is on the intake side of the head just under where the valve cover bolts on the t-belt side. I have a pic if someone needs to see exactly where it is. I do noy know how to host pics.
15330-74020 Servin - I recieved the engine set that was on the ebay ad that you won. When will you be getting the engine. I purchased this one on 08-06-2008 01:07 PM just before I posted in post #2. I figure you will be getting yours in a day or so. Please let me know the condition of your engine. Mine internally looks to have 15K on it. it is honestly that clean. How can you tell what year it is? I need to order some parts and I think that I will need to know the year to get the proper parts. RAMBLE RAMBLE RAMBLE I GOT A BEAMS!!!!!!!!!! Brad. |

Wow that's great to hear man! That sucks the vvti controller is broke I would see if you could get it covered by warranty? As for posting pictures load them to a picture site like photobucket or flickr and post the URL link. I actually called today and was told that it would ship today and they call to ship via ups. They also told they would call to set up the delivery appointment but I haven't heard from my shop to see if they called. Where do you live that was pretty quick shipping. I'll def let you know what kind of condition I get. I really hope mine is that well kept. As for finding out what year it is there should be a plate riveted to the block that should say the motor vin and build date. But all you need to do is to make sure it is for a beams. They only made them from 12/97 to ?/99 so no revisions were made so any year will work. Man you think you are rambling I'm going to be fliping out when I get it!!!! In fact hearing out yours makes me really anxious! Oh man I'm exicited... ![]() |
