Trans question?
I have a beams trans out of a Celica and a trans out of a 95NA MR2. Can you just swap cases like the solara trans and the turbo trans? Just food for thought. I might have the classification wrong but isnt the Celica Beams trans a S54 like the NA MR2?
Thanks in advance, Brad. |

The bell housing should be identical. You'll just need to swap out the gear selectors from the celica to the 5sfe.
Keep us posted... |

I think it will work. I just looked at both transmittions and the only thing that I would be worried about is the input shaft being different. (input shaft) the splined shaft that the clutch disk goes on. Maby someone else has figured this out already but just in case. Another option to taking the chance of destroying a trans case with a off center hole being made in a good case.
I will be trying this in a week or two so I will keep everyone updated. Unless someone knows it will not work. Let me know asap so I do not waist alot of time. Brad. |

JDMsw20 - The bell housing should be identical. You'll just need to swap out the gear selectors from the celica to the 5sfe.
Keep us posted... I was writing as you were posting. The case looks to be exactly the same except for the hole on the exhaust side for the shift rod to go through. The 5sfe case also has a cover on it to cover the hole on the Celice case where the shift rod goes from the factory. I hope I am making sence. Brad. |

Brad you can probably mod it like the solora v6 tranny instead of swapping bell housings. You'll just have to drill the block off plate on the Celica tranny to accomidate the mr2 gear selectors.
BTW I know what your refering to because I also have a Beams celica tranny sitting in my garage =P I decided to go with the turbo tranny/fidanza flywheel combo on my set up. The Beams tranny will |

Hopefully mr220v will post in here what he did but he has a celica beams tranny working in his MR2 rght now. IIRC all he did was drill a hole for the selector shaft and oil seal in the new tranny and transfer your MR2 shift linkage assembly.
I plan on using the celica trans if i can. My old one works fine but if im lucky and do have LSD i def. want that in my car. Last edited by Servin; 08-13-2008 at 10:06 AM.. |

You can drill the hole, and it may be less labor intensive but if the hole is not perfect the seal will not seal properly.
