Solid Lifter Conversion

Howdy folks,

just wondering if it's possible/worth while doing a 1zz solid lifter conversion when i switch to high lift cams?

i've seen this discussed on other forums when building other ge/gte heads and would like to know if theres anything stopping us going the same way.

???

oh have a look at this link too although its regarding a gen2 gte head (i think)
can it be this simple for us too?

i'm at work so cant check the parts themselves but i'm sure the 1zz/beans buckets are more or less the same shim under bucket design anyway, the shim over bucket design was only on the gen1/2 heads.

not sure if there is a shimless bucket you can use.

Its been done here. You better be sure on the bucket you need / get .
Make sure you are alway slightly bigger at least that way it can be machined down.

Yep there are shimless buckets you can use, you buy one in the largest size, measure the clearances, then buy the rest of them in the right size to suit.

But dunno if it's really worthwhile when you've got shim under bucket setup anway... Cant be much lighter, surely?

ditto roman.
the whole point of shimless for the gen1/2 engines was due to them running shim over bucket, hence at high lift the shim may fly out.
if its shim under, then you'd only lose that shim if the bucket flew out, which i'd be more worried about why and what else died to cause bucket failure.

by all means go for it if you wish, but i dont see much of a gain undertaking such a conversion.
