RedTop BEAMS COPs Wires
guys what the hell are those 2 extra wires for?!
I get the ground and the 12v (+) but why the hell are those 2 other ones required? Does our ECU need to know it gets fired & confirmed too? It's the IGT/ION wires that run as the middle two wires on our COPs....I don't get it, everyone and their mom uses just 2 wire COPs, why so special with 4? ![]() |

The igt is the trigger from the ecu to the coil, and ion is the confirmation.
The difference is that out cops contain their own separate igniters. The 2 wire cops you speak of are just coils. They are driven and controled by a separate ignition module. I like the coil/igniter cops much better. |

Sounds like with those, the igniter mechanism is in the ecu. Can't think of any other car with a setup like that, but I know megasquirts have an option for directly driven coils.
