Swapping a Celica Beams engine into your MR2? This could be your lucky day...!

Hi everyone,
I'm a Celica owner and recently I was offered a Beams engine at a price I couldn't refuse.
My engine is from an MR2, so before I go hacking away at my wiring loom, I'd like to ask your help, if I may!
Basically, what I'm after is someone who has a complete Red-top Celica engine (Maybe purchased as a complete front-clip?) with wiring loom, Alternater and brackets who would consider a swap of related components, meaning that both of our engine swaps could be more or less plug & play.
For more info, please email me @:
adelpw@yahoo.co.uk
or if you're in the UK you can ring me on:
07764 995 340
I have pictures of all of the parts I am offering a part of the swap so let me know if you are interested.

Plenty of folks doing the opposite you are attempting, I suppose the MR2 location for the alternator would not be so great on the Celica. You should be alright other than that, water outlet perhaps? A little extension on the wiring harness and you should be pretty good to go.

As far as I know, following parts are different on the Celica/MR2 engines:
Alternator bracket, (Could be made to fit, but would require cutting - tbh I'd rather have a proper one).
Alternator, (Different mountings)
Thermostat Housing, (Different angle)
Dipstick, (Different angle)
Water Outlet - Gearbox end - (Extra pipe) This includes the fuel pipes attatched to it.
And of course, the wiring loom too.
If you swap these bits with me, you'll get the block off plate too, of course.
Have you got an un-cut Celica red-top engine loom or any/all of the bits I need?
Sorry, no MR2 transmission. Although if your's has an LSD I'd consider buying that.

Well pointed out.
I have both engine mount (Which joins onto the block off plate mentioned - Not sure if all MR2s have a similar arrangement),
and Crankshaft pulley so they're included in the swap.

Servin is a great guy and very trust worthy. You should have no problems dealing with him.

I have the Celica Bracket unmolested but the alternator has a busted connection on it so im not sure it's salvageable.

I forgot about the thermostat housing, I was just planning on making the housing work but wouldn't mind swapping that too.

Now the dipstick I didnt care about but will swap that but I dont know if the tube comes off or not?

Water Outlet is one of the main things I want to swap. I dont know about the fuel lines on the water housing? I dont have the actual metal lines from a celica.

Wiring Loom is unavailable, I already had it converted to MR2 spec.

The celica motor mount bracket I have laying around was going to throw away but I def need that block off plate and will take the mount aswell.

Crankshaft pulley im using from my other motor but Ill take it too since I have the Celica one just laying around too. It wouldnt hurt to have another MR2 pulley available.

The tranny will be too expensive to ship and I think im just going to keep it after all. I already drill a small hole to convert it to MR2 use.

Also I have available from Celica that Im not using is A/C Compressor and tensioner and Powersteering pump with bracket/tensioner. Not sure if you need those but Ill throw them in too if needed.

Also find out if the motor you have is a early 97 or late 97/early 98. There seems to be a difference in timing belts on this. Mine is a early 97 and uses a gen3 belt. The later models use the BEAMS specific belt which I have because it was too short for my motor. I can throw that in aswell.

Thanks Brad for the reference!

Phew long post! Now the easy part is deciding on what parts to swap. Now hard part is shipping! Though shouldn't be too bad since it's mainly small stuff.

Dipstick tubes different , but just pull out after removing the bolt.
Dipsticks are different.
Water inlet , THERMOSTATE. SAME part number.
Ful line have brackets attached to a pipe which then in turn are mounted on the water out let.
Have a look at the 2 pipes i made fo my SC and you will see that i also use the housing to hold them.
He needs the celica pully as its 3 and 5 groove and the belt for AC.ALT will be mis aligned

Oh now I feel silly about the dipstick!

Really the T-Stat housing is the same? Well that one less item to ship.

Never really paid much attention to the outlet ill look at it 'morrow.

Yeah figured that one will mocking up my accessories. At the time I remembered either you or Roman saying they were different but figured eh let see what works.

Confusion was between the inlet or the out let.
The inlets are the same but the latter ones have a revised webing on the mount.
