Which Beams in my Altezza & fuel pressure?

Hi guys, i need some clarification on which Beams motor i actually have in my 2000 model Altezza. From the Altezza forum im told i have the RS200 Z-edition model with the 154 kw Beams engine but just need clarification as ive been researching and now found that theres the redtop and black/grey top.

Here is the pic of the engine Imageshack - p1280205.jpg - Uploaded by hp_zim

Also does anyone know what the stock idle fuel pressure is on this engine?

Only the Altezza has the BlackTop BEAMS (stock), so yours is definetely a BlackTop

Thanks for that. Anyone know what the stock fuel pressure is at idle? Mine is currently reading 3.6 bar but the car doesnt seem to be performing well and we suspecting its the fuel pressure

3.6 bar = 52psi.

Stock should be 62 psi, or about 4.3 bar.

Just a question as the altezza is a little different than our cars how do you check the FPR at idle. Well on that note before I speak out of turn how do you check our cars FPR. (given you have a gauge connected) I know the general way of doing so on most fuel injected vehicles but is an MR2 different? I know the Altezzas have teh FPR in the tank so they read a little funnier.. with no vac line to remove...

The MR2 redtops single vvti have a return style system. Like many carsN so its checked like normal.

Only the Altezza/Blacktop/Dual VVTI is a returnless system where fuel psi is controlled by the ecu varying voltage to the fuel pump (iirc). So you just check pressure as the guage reads, no vac hose to remove or block off.

EDIT: the fuel tank/pump has an internal FPR instead of being on the rail. It is NOT voltage controlled as I originally thought.

Thanks for all your input. In my case the fuel pressure is lower than stock and as mentioned its controlled by the ecu so how do i go about getting the fuel pressure back up to spec?

Speaking of fuel pressure, could anyone tell me how much should it be in the RedTop?

the altezza rs200 pump gives constant 62PSI on the fuelrails. Return is in the tank.
Ecu only controls the voltage to the pump by sending 12V or nothing through the FuelPump relais.

Which Beams in my Altezza & fuel pressure?

If your pressure is low on the returnless BlackTop, it might be that your fuel pump is going dead...since the ECU controls the pressure by switching the pump on/off (btw any of you know if it sends less voltage like the Supra Turbo while at idle?) I would say the pump is on it's way out. Now this is assuming that your fuel system is otherwise working properly. Fuel filter clean/new, no sludge/crap in the lines, fuel pickup filter clean, no pinched fuel lines etc

I'm pretty sure that the 'returnless' system just has the fuel pressure regulator bleeding back directly into the fuel tank, it doesnt control fuel pressure via varying the fuel pump.

If your fuel pressure is low then I'd suspect that either the FPR in the tank is faulty (unlikely?) or the fuel pump is on it's way out, or the fuel pump isnt getting the full 12v for some reason, I think there's a computer or relay which switches between 9v and 12v to the fuel pump.

But either way, at idle the engine would not be consuming enough fuel to make it run lean at the lower setting.

In other news, do you have an altered/aftermarket air intake on the motor?

99.99999% of the time there's a problem with a beams motor, that's it.

Aftermarket intake *without* proper adjustment to fueling does cripple the BEAMS...

Correct.

Edited my above post where I was mistaken.
