AEM FIC
Would an AEM FIC work for our engine, it says that it's designed to work on OBD-II vehicles and has a built-in MAP sensor, has anyone tried hooking one up their BEAMS? I know as proven, an effective way to control engine is go stand-alone, but right now I'm not to keen on spending $1000++ for that yet, all I want to do anyway for now is just unlock the potential of the engine after simple upgrades such as free-flow exhaust. Anyway going back to the AEM FIC, since it also would have a built-in MAP sensor, does this mean we can eliminate our MAF and run open ITB's?

OEM ECU does a good enough job with small upgrades such as free-er flowing exhaust.
You don't want to run ITB's with the FIC anyways. OEM must have the MAF, aftermarket ECU uses whatever. |

Sounds like a piggyback to me.... I have made my opinions on piggyback computers known multiple times...
Why not look into getting megasquirt or something like that? You can get pre-assembled boards, and wiring really isn't THAT big of a deal... Then just buy some dyno time and find someone you trust, have it tuned and you're ready to go. |

This is by far the most IMPORTANT part of any 'tuning' you do. Now if you opt to go the AEM FIC route, remember it will NOT do you any good unless you get on that dyno and do some tuning. What's this mean in real world terms? Well, you will probably spend upwards of $1000 just in dyno time to get it right......if for some odd reason you get it 100% right on the first try then watch your step because you will be hit by that once in 1.000.000 year asteroid on your way to the bathroom.....I'm just saying... Going piggy-back (YUCK!!), though it should be mentioned the only time piggy-back is any good is when it's 3 hot & half naked girls doing the piggybacking, is not the 'cheap' way to do things. When it comes down to it you will spend almost as much as a standalone unit if you get near making 100% use of the piggyback system. Go piggy-back if your ECU is a pain about things (like the case of the R35 GTR & it's computer shenanigans....), which should really be the *only* time to make use of one. |
