rough idle
I just recently installed the beams into my 98 celica and experiencing idling issues.
Symptoms: erratic idling up and down between 900 rpm -1100rpm at normal operating temp - eventually it stays at 1k or 1100rpm, but if i turn on AC - it goes to about 900rpm and sputters as if it would shut off -- give it a little gas and releast - rpm rises then would drop significantly and sometimes actually shuts off ---- whe driving even with AC off - i would coast in neutral to a stop sign or stop light - and would shut off. Done so far: Cleaned throttle body - 3 times, replaced spark plugs - tested coil pack - tested alternator, starter, battery - cleaned AFM, resealed intake manifold and throttle body to ensure no vacumm leaks. Tested AFM by removing it from Intake while engine running and it would shut off. Running out of ideas and don't want to start replacing unecessary parts. I tried to see if there was a stored CEL not showing up, but when testing - the CEL would continuously flash with no pause and would do so, until i shut off engine. Does this mean there is no CEL because if there was it would pause in between some where? Any help is appreciated. Could any part of my harness wiring be incorrect. |

Njccmd2002 - I am that same member LoL - 2bcelica -- i will do a compression test later. Raining like hell where I am.
To get codes out of the beams you have to ground pin Tc in the diagnosis plug - and turn the ignition key to On - it'll start a flashing sequence. that would give you the code. Beams ECU does not do OBD 2 - |

I think you have left out something in the wiring. Why ? because you say that when you turn on your AC idles go down, Thats normal as a load is put on the engine but the ECU should correct that and the idle should go up to compensate.
Only afer looking at a drawing from Toyota manual do you see how many things are all interelated. The ECU is doing a lot of thinking and is geared up that way from Toyota. Start messing around with different diameter intakes and things causes issues sometimes. Having kept my engine factory with everything stock has never caused me any issues. Cold start 1,500 rpm. 2 minutes later settles to 900 rpm. Turn on heating , AC etc rises to 1,100 then quickly settles to 900 rpm. Full accelerator then put in clutch quickley dives to 1,300 ( lightened fly wheel ) then slowly goes down to 900 rpm. Have you added all the piping as per OEM ? 2 vacuum hoses , one from Regulator to the throttle body and the Throttle body to the charcoal canister valve? Is the little nipple under the inlet manifold pluged ? |
