Bought a Beams, have some questions.

I have a 99 Rav4 2 dr and bought a beams and had it delivered.

I have a few questions before I rip into it.

Will I retain the ability to pass emissions? I am in PA.

I heard that swapping from a 3sfe to the beams was straight forward TRUE?

Also the wiring, yes the wiring, I have read through the forum extensively. Does the motor wire up easily>? Everything does not have to switch over but alot does I'm sure.

Also what will I gain by paying for my harness to be converted? Will it be similar to a honda swap (if you done them) where you simply plug it in?

Thanks

Also one more thing what is the sensor in the rear of the cam gear? Mine was broken when I got it. (cam pos sensor??)

we need to post something like a warning to new buyers to specifically ask about the cam sensor, it seems to break easy by the location and when they pull it out.

Wiring is 400 bucks if you send it, somebody here does it and Phoenix Tuning Home: We specialize in Toyota Engine Swaps & Wiring Harness Conversions - located in Savannah, GA.

if emisions is something you worry about, call your local inspection agency and ask what they look for, because beams are not OBD2, and if they scan the engines you may not pass, however some rav4 are obd1 and you may be in this category.

theoretically the swap should be bolt on however give more details.

your engine (auto, manual, 4x4?)

your new engine (auto, manual, 4x4)

the sensor, very difficult to get, call your importer and tell them that you cannot install the engine and you cannot verify the 30 day start up warranty if any, and if they can locate a sensor for you. im in your shoes and supposedly they have located one and its on it way (crossing fingers) push them hard. otherwise sit and wait cuz from australia it will take five weeks.

I just took a look at my engine. That VVTI sensor's connector sticks out there waiting for something or someone to rip it off.

My Motor is a FWD Manual transmission

And the motor I am planning on swapping in is the same FWD Manual

This sensor has me ticked off, already I have to fashion a Y pipe and now I may have to source this sensor.

Seems the guy I bought mine from may have sold this to someone else and had it returned.

I got fuse boxes with my swap but they are damaged as well are these parts that I need?

Thanks for any and all help,

Actually $350 if you have me do it. Here's my site:

[ MR220V.COM ]

For a celica, it really should be a DIY proposition.

You gain a harness that is PNP with your existing rav4 body harness. Important if your beams harness is cut, or if the uncut beams harness you have is incompatible with your rav4 harnesses (this will depend on what car the beams is originally out of).

You'll need to look and compare your new harness with your old one. It could be a matter of a few wires, or it could be that the whole thing needs to be restructured.

I need your rav4 engine harness, along with your cut or uncut beams harness.

Ok so the 2 fuse boxes that came with my swap are they used at all? Do I send them to you too? My motor is out of a celica.

You can send them, but I generally don't use them. Your original rav4 fuse box, relays, fuses, etc... is what the harness I make is made to hook into. So all you need to send are the harnesses connected directly to the motors.

Well since he followed through I will say who it is, it did take lots of arm twisting for him to send me one. Japanese Engine Import from Virginia. I told him I would send the motor back since it would be cheaper then me tracking down the sensor. He finally realized I was serious.
