4WD conversion
I would like to know, Celica GT4's or all-tracs are 4wd's right? so would a 3sgte tranny fit our BEAMS? also has anyone tried driving four-wheels with their BEAMS? I'm planning to have my corolla converted to 4wd using a celica's drivetrain, I really don't mind cutting or whatever needs to be done with the car, the reason why I wanna do this is with my future plans of boosting it, I feel FWD might not be the best setup for it specially during track days, you guys think this can be pulled off? anything I should lookout for?

also what do you mean by retarded? also does the AWD system Celica's use, are they just plain and simple 4wd or can you switch it to 2wd also? does it involve any gizmo's like the EVO's complicated 4WD that has torque biasing, AYC, etc? |

Stay RWD dude. MY MR2 with BEAMS is much more fun to drive than my ST205 with 3SGTE
![]() ![]() ![]() BTW I did the clutch in my ST205 the other month, getting the gearbox and transfer box on/off is very very heavy and such a pain in the ass to do on the ST205. |

The SS2000 class corollas used for rally use a single VVTI beams motor, and the GT4 celica drivetrain.
So it's definitely doable. There's a guy here in New Zealand whos converted a factory 4WD AE104 sprinter sedan (or something similar) to use a 3SGTE and celica 4WD system. Hacking up a fwd to fit the rear driveshaft and diff etc probably aint gonne be pretty, most likely have to lose some of your interior to make it all fit in a new tunnel. Also, at the last local time attack event held by one of the local car magazines, the winning car was a 7AGTE powered front wheel drive AE92... This car has also done 10 second quarter miles, and is still street legal, uses front wheel drive. Can go fast on a track with any engine/drivetrain layout if you spend the time and $$$ refining it. |

Thanks Roman! that got me thinking, well I think I'll maximize first the potential of my setup then that's the time I'll reassess my plans, but for long term, what I want from this car would be like a Celica GT4 guised in a Corolla's body.

GT4 = dead give away its 4 wheel drive no? Thought you could guess that.
If you are going AWD on the Corolla, why not just BlackTop BEAMS it with the RS200 tranny & drivetrain? Much moar +1 fun with that I think...less work too, tho both will require lots work to get running...instead of RedTop + AWD driveline from a Celica.... |

You've got to be a member to be able to read it, but check out this if you're serious about the 4WD:
Toyspeed.org.nz Message Board :: Log in Would be easy as to chuck all of your beams parts and running gear into a 4WD shell. |

I have seen a old Camry 4x4 (like 1990 or so!) running a Beams redtop in Quebec City. But really don't know much about this car.

This question crops up about once every 3 or 4 months, and it makes me sigh every time. First of all, the alltrac trans would be backwards. Secondly, there's no good reason to make the MR2 all wheel drive.

Have you even bothered to read the thread at all?
You'd probably sigh a little less if so. |

Toyspeed wont let you sign up with a 'free' email address, like hotmail etc.
Basically the guy started with an AE104 sprinter sedan, which is the factory 4WD version. Honestly, not worth the effort converting a fwd to 4wd when there's already a factory car that came out that way? |

Is this anything like the crazy German guy who's committed to building a beams turbo GT4 based on an altezza black top engine -did that ever get anywhere????? -must be a page or 2 back on the forum??
.....anyhow (unrelated) 4WD is easy driving -RWD RULES END OF. Forget a 4WD conversion, if any you should be looking at RWD!!!!!!!!!! |
