Help with redtop after swap
Hello my name is espen and I have just installed a beams redtop into my 90 N/A Mr2.
Had a lot of problems (Leaking water-pump, leaking transmission, Worn out threads in thermostat-housing, cut fuel-lines and more), but found a way to sort them out. I have now got the engine fired up, but it oscillate at idle and have a slow rpm-limiter at about 3000rpm (haven't wired tacho yet so don't know exact rpm). It smells intense of fuel when the engine runs. I have found out that the position's of the MAF will not make any changes to the engine-running. I can turn it 180 degrees in the airflow without any change. I can also disconnect the wiring to the MAF and still no change. Is my MAF dead? I have a engine warning-light, but I have not been able to read any codes jet. (shorted Te1 and E1 in diagnostic plug, but warning-light did not pulse. ) The C-5 connector on the ECU is not wired in jet. Where do I put it? And I also have a connector that was not going anywhere when I bought the engine. Anyone knows what it is for? Its close to the wiring to the engine-compartment-fan. Wire is black with white stripe. Thanks for now. Espen (PS sorry for bad English I'm from norway) |

That MAF is surely not what the RedTop has originally. I've seen this kind of MAF in 1ZZ-FE.
The plug is the same, but the 5 wires are connected in different order, of this I'm sure! Edit: You can read the error codes by "earthing" the TC pin, it's different on this engine as well. |

I do get code number 24 and 31 wich is for MAF. The MAF I have got has partnumber 22204-21010 but I think 22204-20010 is the one I schould have? am I right? No wonder it does not run any good. |

Hello.
Have now got the correct MAF sensor. I have still the same symptoms as this: Need help with Codes I do also get Error-Code 31. I dont even need to start the engine after connecting the battery to get it. Just but it into Error-code mode and set ignition to "on" then after about 10-15sec I get the code. I'm Lost now. Dont know what to do except checking the connection on every wire that goes to the MAF. All the MAF wiring is internal in the engine-loom right? Connects to either A or B connector on ecu? (those are left UN-touched). Also I would really like to know what the connector that is close to engine-compartment fan is supposed to connect to. Is that one important? Thanks for the help guys. Wouldn't be possible without it. |

Thanks.
I just got an idea about that maybe the MAF sensor gets +B from somewhere (example the relay-box). Then there might be possible that it is missing that connection. I will try to have a look at that tomorrow. Anyone know of any wiring-diagram that shows the MAF details? |

LOOK ABOVE IN THE beams section and you will see wiring diagram.
+ b goes to a junction plug and then to the EFI relay |

Found the problem.
Previous owner had changed the wiring to the MAF sensor. Probably to go with the MAF that came with the swap. We put it back to standard configuration and then it was all OK. Drove for a little while then the idle started cycling. Was high before that but no cycling. Have tried to disconnect the Idle valve but no change. Re-set the Ecu and idle was back to smooth 2000rpm. Then after some minutes it started cycling. Any ideas? Also I must say I like the sound of the car now! Even with std rev2 3sge exhaust it sounds amazing. Only mod here is the airfilter. Thanks for the help guys. |

Idle at 2000?! Sounds quite high to me, it should be 750.
Nice sound btw. |
