Dakota Digital tacho converter
I just swapped the BEAMS into my 95 Celica GT and am having problems with the Dakota digital tacho output converter. It starts up fine but within 1 to 2 seconds my tacho just drops to 0 and the lights on the box shut off any ideas?

Sounds like issue with the box right? Give Dr. Tweak a PM, he I think installs these on his BEAMS swaps.... Or just use the tried & true MSD Tacho Adapter #8920 |

got this from pasqual
![]() SGI-8D there is TACO signal in beams ecu , plug C-27 silver wire if I remember correctly cut this wire , (Im talking about 6 gen celica st202 ) tacho signal going out from ecu ... so : 1. cut silver wire 2. ecu side silver wire , connect to SGI-8D IN (called ECM or somthing like that ) 3. other side cuted wire connect to SGI-8D OUT high voltage 4. set correctly PIN/SWitch on SGI to get proper RPM on tacho beams ECU using 5V signal , and stock 6 gen gauge is 12 V this is why You need put signal from OUT high volt |

I would dump it and use the MSD tach adapter, sounds like a iffy product. Hell I just looked it up and looks like its for diesel's. There 3 version's, a universal one, one that uses the flywheel for the signal, and another that uses the alternator for the signal. Its also a bit more than the MSD unit too.

Check your vacuum lines too, there is a small nipple on top of the TB that's for line to the charcoal canister. Then there is on the bottom left hand side that goes to the fuel pressure regulator. Also check to make sure your IACV is plugged in as well.

Sounds like perhaps this tachometer device is fried maybe then?
Or do what I did & install the ST202 BEAMS gauges cluster ![]() |
