The 2nd gen 3sge harnesses match up to the 5s body harness almost perfectly.

Yep! Wiring the coils should be quite easy.

I would imagine the cam sensor is similar or the same as the one used on earlier generations.
The end of the camshaft has two fins on it, that are approx. 120 degrees apart. It uses a hall effect sensor to pick up when the fin passes the sensor.
I cant remember how many wires come from this, but I'll check later.

Quote:
Is the crank sensor a simple 1 wire pickup?
Yes, hall effect sensor, that picks up teeth on the crank pulley.
It's either one or two wires, I'll check later.

The vvt should be easy to wire.
Yeah I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I'm fairly sure that it's just a solenoid that opens/closes to let oil pressure in or out of the camshaft. So the wiring side of it should be easy enough.

Quote:
Run 3 wires, and theres your map sensor.
The redtop runs an AFM/temp sensor in one unit, and has 5 wires coming from it.

One other thing, I noticed that the 4th gen engine plugs are very similar to the 3rd and second gen plugs. How about the ecu? Are any of the the 90's standard 26, 22, 16? Or are the ecu plugs more like the newer toyotas?
The redtop has four plugs going into the ECU; 2 from the body harness, and two from the engine loom.
I'm not sure what other ECUs are similar, but it's definitely different to the three plug gen 2 ECU.

I would like to have a nice custom stainless steel intake system for my BEAMS however I'm not to clued up as to the breather pipes it uses.

Does anyone know if you need the main air pipe that feeds from under your cover to your intake pipe? And if not is it a simple plug up and forget kind of job?

Ive seen on a few other peoples car (Maikl to name one) that they have gotten rid of it all together, would like some insight into it first thou!

Thanks in advance!

You need the breather hose leading into the crank case.

However it doesnt have to be tee'd into the main air filter pipe, you can get small breather filters that you could put on the end of the hose, and it would be fine. You could mount it down the side of the engine, or somewhere out of sight if you wanted.

So long as it's got a source of filtered air, then it's okay.

Hello. I just had a redtop swapped into my wife's 5th gen celica convertible. Haven't driven it yet. It seems the tach won't work with the high reving beams. The shop is waiting for a tach adapter. Did anyone else encounter this during their swaps?

Hi guys,

Well im a happy Beams owner too for almost a year now Last year i imported JDM ST202 Celica from japan witch is almost the last produced cuz it is 99/11 Car came compleatly stock, and i had to conver it to LHD, so conversions is still in progress (actually its finished, but still smal things need to be reasembled (like interior ) and etc, but the engine is running... Had some problems with the Clutch, it was worn out totaly, so was a bit dificult to find one from 3sGE engine (the right one, cuz i ordered clutch from ClutchNet - so they sent me the damn 3SGTE one...) Now everything is solved, and once i get my celi from Paint Shop - i will start to work on the Mods for the damn crazy engine..

Im looking for a Header for a start, after this i was planing to add E-manage just to be availible to play a bit with the fuel.. Ofcorse if this is a bad idea - shot me advices. What else can be done to the engine, what size exhoust is recomended and etc. Thank you guys. Will post some pics later, cuz i already did some cosmetical changes on the Engine cover

Romas

P.s. Im from Lithuania, so my main language isnt English - so frgive me for all the mistakes

P.s.s. So people might now me from 6GC.net or MR2OC.net - im Doggy there, the one crazy about the custom stuff and etc

You can use a 5sfe clutch and throwout bearing with a 3sgte pressure plate for future reference. Thats what i'm running with my 2nd gen 3sge. The 3sgte pressure plate has a much stiffer feel than the 5s unit.

In terms of headers the known ones we have seen being used are TOMS, TRD and Phoneix Gold (goodluck sourcing those but if you find some let me know).

E-Manage would be a waste of money in iron sight as the ECU will remap itself back everytime from what Ive heard anyway. You could go cheaper route and use a SAFC but youd have the same problems in the end. Best way is a stand-alone ECU like Brashboy, C-One or even Motec!

And yes get plenty of pictures up!!

About time we got some more info on this engine

I too just recently got a swap done on my 93' MR2 N/A - 99' BEAMS (MR2).
Just found out about that C-One timing belt, not too shabby

For those of you that don't know, this sounds amazing! I'll try and get some pics/vids of the car and whatnot but most likely I'll end up waiting until spring when I take the car out of storage.

Pic of my swap below

Celica Boy - The website doesn't actually sell parts, But i've listed parts that you can get for the beams engine, such as the pistons, cams, and many other aftermarket custom parts.

go to this link, and then use the email address to contact the person who is selling the parts.

http://www.beams-redtop.com/Aftermarket_Mods.htm

the email address for the person to talk to is.....

gbooth at bigpond.net.au

his name is glenn
