Yes, we have one too!

We bougt ours in the japan ebay (yahoo) a copuple of monts ago (may?), and it arrived last week.
It was 200000 Yen plus transfer, and of course the brokerage of the home and japan traders... in the end it cost about 2.5 times more, than the starting price.
But hey! It worth it!!!
It was from a wrecked MR2 with 60000 km,and we got the LSD tranny, exhaust system, ECU+wiring, and a big-big brand (almost) new SARD power intake
The pre-owner has changed the cam-belt at 40k, and we got perfectly clear new oil in the engine! Japanese people are rule!
Only sad thing, that we miss the axles, so we have to buy them from the UK.
Another few weeks, and finally it will roar under our belowed ST162's hood!

Engine: about 1600$
The transfer (shipping), and other fees: about 2000$
The swap: we make deal with the firm (Monkey Motorsports) they do the swap for the price of the ol' engine (3S-GE with T-VIS its got about 210k km) They specialised in Toyota sportcars (Celi, MR2, Supra)
The mechanic crew has an MR2 turbo 280 HP, a Badly modified Carlos Sainz 400 HP, and an MK2 Supra turbo 350 HP

I put a nice quote from you in my sig. lol.

That all doesnt seem worth it, you could drop 3,600 dollars into a different motor to produce much more horsepower it seems... That really sucks

Then show me an other fanatic, who put a BEAMS into an old ST162!
May be it is cost a lot, but the faces from the other cars are priceless when I simply kick the pedal to the metal, and they try to follow me, but do nothing just got distance
I have 200+ HP instead of 140 (minus the ages) a six year old engine instead of a 20+, and about 6 sec to the hundred (dont forget, I am from Europe)
So the 3600 dollars not a price for that pretty thing.
At least the car was just about 1000$.
So lets talk about an other 2 liter NA car, which has this performance and do not costs the hose from me!

I bought my Beams from the Yahoo Auctions in Japan also, i paid $600 bucks for my engine, engine harness, and ECU. Now i will need to find a few extra parts including a tranny, but in the end, i believe i will spend about $1100 for everything not aftermarket.

The Sard Air filter is a nice edition too as i recieved it also with my package.

The engine goes for about $5500.00 in the U.S. and they are still very rare. Having a kickass NA and a very rare engine appeals to people, atleast it did for me.

is there a dyno for a stock or mildly modded Beams lying around? I would like to see the curve in relation to a turbo motor. I love my Gen3 turbo, but NA=better for autocross imho, but not by much with the right driver, and that's wht autocross is all about right?

I don't have much of an issue with throttle response on my car though. My turbo and intercooler are all right there, the previous owner ditched the side mounted for a larger top mount. I really don't notice lag. I can litterally feel the turbo spool up, It doesn't throw me back into my seat, just kind of gently places me there. Kinda hard to explain. I rode in a Gen2 with side mount IC, and it seemed to throw me back as the preasure finally hit the engine. I could see the appeal of going to an NA from that car, but not from mine.

However I would LOVE to have an NA for a daily driver, but I think the choices other than the beams are lame. Maybe someday I'll have the beams.. or maybe a v6

Yeah looking at this thread so far, a V6 swap seems like a more realistic option for me for an autox car. But that would put me in the same class as the extremely modified cars ;(
