Holy Crap, I worked at a foreign car recycling shop (Florida, USA) for 3 years and never, ever saw a ECU for $300. Is this a late model engine or what.?
Naive. |

^It's still a mass produced motor. Not like the 5sfe, but still plenty of them out there.
There was a time when 20v ecu's were almost impossible to come by. Now they are everywhere. The 20v's also hard to find back around 2000. Now the market is flooded with them. As the beams 3sge's start coming off japanese roads, I suspect we'll see more and more of them. Prices have been coming down a lot lately. For the ecu's, if you're willing to buy off yahoo japan, prices are a lot cheaper. |

What's the part number for a redtop ecu? Lots of ECU's on yahoo japan, but I can't figure out what is BEAMS and what isn't!

There haven't been any red or greytop ecu's on yahoo japan for a while. Plenty of blacktop ecu's though. Maybe I should get one for myself and see if it works for the redtop.
People on this board say it won't, I kinda think it will. |

gauges would be kinda hard no? Isn't the BlackTop a CAN-bus for the gauges?

Oil and coolant would be easy. Just leave the redtop gauge sensors in.
The Blacktop ecu appears to have a check engine light pin. It also has a Taco pin which will take care of the Tach. Canbus is really not that big of a problem. Neither is drivebywire for that matter. I got some experience here recently wiring a motor from a 2008 silverado into a 94 firebird. Who knows, maybe the JDM canbus standard is the same as the US standard. That would be an advantage of using a blacktop ecu. Of course returnless fueling is an issue. Last edited by mr220v; 08-28-2009 at 04:34 PM.. |

Hrmmm, can't find anything. May have to go aftermarket, or a new one from toyota if they have them? This could cost alot!
