Retro fit Distributor to red top ??

I know this is an unusual question . I may be able to get hold of a red top beams engine . However, it doesn't have the coil packs or ecu etc.
I would be planning to disable the vvti and fit aftermarket cams from my rev 4 3sge, and was wondering wether I could basically swap in my dissy and set this up to run on my current ecu, then adjust the fuelling via an apexi safc2 ?
Basically I'm looking at using the engine for the raised compression, improved intake plenum and lower mileage . I then plan to mount the Throttle body from a 3litre camry and port the intake to allow better top end breathing .
Any help is much appreciated .
(I realise I could just mate my rev 4 3sge head to the block, but why split a perfectly good headgasket )

beams motor

for a start the rav 4 motors cams wont fit and also has no room for a disy thats why it has coils on top and it also has crank and cam sensors as well ,
in plain english your barking up the wrong tree

I think you slightly misunderstood me it's a rev 4 3SGE engine not rav 4. Basically the generation before the Beams vvti in my 97 model uk n/a MR2.
I've looked at the exploded diagram of the Beams head, and it appears that there is a gap in the location where the distributor would be on earlier models . Therefore I was wondering wether this could be replaced with a standard dissy.
If not then I'll just mate the head from my engine to the beams block and intake plenum .

just bite the bullet and get the coil packs & correct ecu, trust me its worth it, especially when you fly by a 05 mustang gt and leave the owner wondering wtf just happened..... my 92 celi & beams > 05 stang gt = FTW

The reason I don't just fit a Beams engine and ecu is that the set up I have is already producing power well into Beams territory (close to 160bhp @ the wheels) . I really just want the main benefits of raised compression and to improved intake plenum . I wouldn't want to spend thousands of ££££'s to have an engine which may well have a few bhp less than what I have now . But a cheap low mileage beams engine that no-one else wants due to it not being complete would be a bargain way to boost compression safely and open up airflow on the intake as well .
Like anyone who's come so far with an engine, the last thing you want to do is step backwards at great cost, and begin again .

If one of you guys could get hold of an ecu etc. for me at a reasonable price then I'd certainly consider going 100% beams
Although I'd have to pop in uprated cams right from the word go
(you have to take into account how hard it is to source beams parts here in the UK)

gen 3 3sge motor

so you have a gen 3 motor that has 180 hp from factory, you cant bolt your gen 3 head on to the beams any way as the beams has a closed up valve angle compared to the gen 3 motor. so your valves would hit the pistons etc

Thanks for the info. I had thought they were compatible. You say there is no room for the dissy, I take it the the vvti pipework and intake plenum are the issue there?
I don't suppose you'd have a rough idea on the cost of a suitable ecu etc. ?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Your help is much appreciated. If you are selling the ecu and airbox then please PM me with details . I have a week or so before I know if I'll be getting this beams engine, but if I am and the ecu etc. come at the right price then I'd be more likely to go full beams
I may even hold onto the engine, sell my current car, and then use the funds to build a new tweaked beams from scratch
