Beams Redtop Clutches

In researching clutches in my parts book, I came across something and had a questions about it. First off.....

1998+ Beams Redtop Pressure Plate Assembly - 31210-44010

Second would be the clutch disks, and there is 2 for the redtop.

1998 Clutch Disk - 31250-20330
1999 Clutch Disk - 31250-20331

So whats the deal with changing them out in 1999? Anyone know the difference?

Can you check to see old P/N changes up to the new one in Toyota's system? By that I mean, if you order 31250-20330 will you actually get a 31250-20331 anyway?

Ill have to look on my EPD when i get home tonight. I learned yesterday when ordering a few parts, that Toyota changes some of the part numbers from year to year, why....i have no idea.

Usually the part number will change where there is a slight revision to the part. Sometimes its hard to tell what that change is. I'd bet that those clutch disks are interchangeable.

Yeah, i would think so too.

As far as i know, there were no revisions to the engine and tranny for those 2 years, so no changes in parts either. I bet your right, they changed the part number.

I get that chop chop sound aswell but sometimes even with the clutch fully engaged - I thought it was an engine mount on the way out or something?!?!

The clutch disk that came off of my motor was pretty standard looking. I am certain it was the original one.

It was pretty worn, so I replaced it with a nicer 5sfe clutch disk that I had. The 5sfe clutch disk was the exact same diameter as the beams flywheel friction surface and the original disk. It appears to be the exact same clutch disk.

The only reason they would introduce a totally different disk is if they changed the spline on the transmission, or the diameter of the gripping surface on the flywheel. I have not heard of them doing either with the 3sge or s5x transmission, so that part number change is probably not a big deal.

Thanks PHOENIX for your help.

I need the red top clutch for my V6 project because I use the S54 tranny.

It is the strongest Toyota clutch for this tranny, because it use 6 springs and not 4 like the normal 3S-GE clutch.

The picture show the normal small 3S-GE clutch with the V6 or turbo pressure plate. You can see that the clutch is 10mm smaller in diameter.

But this is no problem I think because the MR2 weight 350kg less then the Camry.
