What type of plugs do you all use with your beams?

I am going to stay stock as i ordered 5 sets of plugs from toyota and will probably get more before i leave japan.

From what i can tell from my parts book, toyota offers 2 different sets of spark plugs.......

BKR6EP11 - 90919-01179

or

PK20R11 - 90919-01178

And while we are on that subject, or atleast in that area......

Coil Packs for the beams redtop is.....

90919-02227

The stock plugs for the Gen 3 3S-GTE are part number 90919-01180-83. I wonder how different those are?

Interesting.....

Yes, that is the part number that i have too, but....i don't know what the 83 is at the end of your part number.

i figured the plugs would be different between non turbo, and turbo. the book also says that those spark plugs are used in any mr2 from 89 through 97, but changed in 1997/12, turbo and NA 3S engines.

I was able to buy the spark plugs at the dealer here in the States. I can't remember what car it was from, but I think I kept the box.

On a side note, I have a set of the Denso Iridium IK20 for sale if anyone is interested. Brand new, never been opened.

hi-five WFX and do stick to the correct heatrange. I have those HKS S40i's in my rig and im convinced they are waaay too cold for my purposes and its what keeps my engine in a stall-run after i switch the IGN off.....keeps "dieseling" for 2-5seconds

When i took my beams mr2 in for its first service after rolling off the boat from japan my mechanic put in BKR5E NGK plugs, i know that NGK recommends the BKR6EIX iridium plugs, the car runs fine, but ive noticed a bit of fuel spitting out of the exhaust, could this be because of the incorrect plugs? or would it not make much difference?

thanks for the help guys

No, not from plugs.

If you are running a range too hot, you will have more chance of detonation and preignition. Your ecu will be more likely to pull timing.

Do yourself a favor and get the 6range NGK iridiums they will last much longer than standard 5 range coppers, and they are better for your engine.
