Blown Beams

So with 36 miles on my beams it started to tick. The tick was rod knock. Long story short it threw a rod thru the block and I have pieces of the valves on cyl number 4 laying in my intake manifold, and pieces of who know what else in my exhaust. I have a hole in my block which is low enough that it can be fixed. I got screwed by the importer of the engine (jdm engine depot in jersey) So obviously I am in need of some parts, well actually alot of parts. Thanks to all who helped with all the ?'s I had when I was doing my swap and building the car, the car was very fun for those 36 miles but man what an expensive 36 miles it was. I guess now I get to tear into my first beams not my idea of fun. So guys I need any help you can offer hints tips parts for sale. I guess I need rings, head gasket, piston or pistons, possibly a head, valves ect.... So if you have parts for sale or extras laying around that would be great...... Any advice or ideas for me?

Thanks

Is there any type of warranty on the motor?

I did not have the motor installed within the 30 day warranty time period(which is a garbage warranty anyway) How can you do a full swap with 30 days minus the shipping time and wiring ect. With my scedule/work It was not possible for me to have it installed and driving in 3 weeks...

Try and call around for a used Caldina greytop. I've seen those on ebay for $500.

It sounds like rebuilding this one is probably going to be out of the question. I guess you could pull the cylinder head and see what damage has been done here.

yeah you use the redtop electrics on the caldina.
there's only one different pin, but i run a redtop ecu on my grey top and i haven't had any issues.

any chance of some pics of the damage? really sucks though. 30 day warranty is ********. they should have at least test ran the engine for you. 36 miles to fail is just wrong.

When I received it, I did a timing belt, water pump, pulled the manifolds and plugs, lubed the cyl's and thats it well new oil/filter obviously. I appreciate the offer with the part numbers. When I tear into the motor I will pm you. Atleast toyota still offers the sb as a last resort.
Thanks for your help.

I have access to a greytop here locally. You'd have to come to atlanta though, however, I think it could be had for $7-$800.

Heck, I'd probably give you $150-$200 for that thing just for parts and to have something to play with.

This place I deal with isn't all that organized. It's shoot from the hip pricing. They usually give me a little better price though. They sold me my redtop for $900, so I figure this would be $7-$800

Well by throwing a rod I mean breaking a rod. In my case I am assuming excessive play in the connecting rod bearings. Im gonna have to tear into it to find out exactly went wrong. Could also be caused by loss of oil pressure/overheating.....

Do you know the exact pricing for the engine? Is is a bare engine or does it have accessories? What is the place called so I can get an address to see exactly how far away it is. Thanks for your help

Is there anything else that could of caused this? Like if the timing was off or something was screwey in the wiring or aernt they possibilities with me having 36 miles on it and it ran hours before the drive??

Thanks

Rod knock? I can't imagine any electrical error that could cause this. Usually if you messed up with wiring, you would either not start, or be stuck in limp mode.

A broken timing belt would usually just bend valves.

I just called over to best japanese engine, the guy was very helpful although I had a hard time explaining to him the motor I was looking for. He is gonna take a few pics of it and get back to me tomorrow. Hopefully I can pick it up on my trip down south 16th - 23rd.

Internally it is very clean. Missing some parts, so it's not a very good swap candidate (including any vestige of a wiring harness) but perfect for somebody needing a longblock.
