what i need is a good measurement of our injector lengths, we don't have those gay super long ones do we? edit: Saturated Injector SL4-0440 The SXE10 injectors look as tho they are the long pencil types, so I guess modding the fuel rail or the stand-off's is in order |

Seems that from all the engineers ive spoken to all 12 ! that are Vic Roads approved ( our RTA here ) That it would be a waste of money doing the SC conversion, as it would need A LOT OF MONEY to meet our very tough EPA restrictions. Its like $1,500 for the test and its either pass or fail and then return it back to stock. Problem is the 3SGE came in N/A or Turbo only. All of them had no problem if l put a turbo clip in. Gee i will speak to Glen b/c they even wont allow the ITB's. This is a joke as their would thousands of cars here on the road that are not RTA compliant.
So unless l can find a VIC ROADS cerfified engineer to sign his life away looks like i cant proceed. PS before anyone says just do it and dont tell anyone. Thats not me unfortunately, I need it totally legal |

Well that isnt very good news to here from you mate! But you have opened the path to a viable supercharger option for many others! Before you came along with all this wonderful info a couple of people were thinking about the idea but knew no such way to go about it. So maybe finally someone will be able to finish this idea.

Hows this,
Had an interseting conversation with a recognised , approved engineer. Because the SW20 didnt come with a SC or ITB's no chance to get appeoval from RTA unless i Do the government approved sniff test. $3,500 single shot , fail or not fail ![]() BUT l can put a turbo on with out any sniff test because they came out turboed !!!!!!! I have many engineers to sign that off for the TRA So there you go what rediculous laws. Last edited by MANDALAY; 09-09-2008 at 06:21 AM. |

$3.5 is just for the government/RTA registered company that does a full EPA test , emmissions.
Problem is my car is a 1999 and tuff new laws were impossed in 97-98 and l have to comply with those emmissions. Since the SC wasnt a factory option i have to do the test. How ever if i put a turbo l dont. If the car was a 96 well ild still have to do the test but chances are that ild pass as emissions acceptable were 5 times higher. Everyone has said that i was 99% guarenteed that l would be over emmissions if l put a SC in. Heads up / In Aussie it will be hard to fart in 2010. Thats why classics are easily gone. Apparently Holden , Toyota and ford spent millions of dollars just to get their SC approved here. And the engineers reckon that no one would have the ability and also guarentee to tune the car even with a MoTec to meet emmissions as car manufactures have teams and time and dollars to do that. |

Well ill be damed ! I have already found 3 engineers that are full RTA approved that will sign of me turboing my BEAMS because as they state the RTA is fully aware of turbo imports so adding the turbo would be no problem for them to sign off as long as the boost is kept relative low. And not to mention any after market ECU.
Well ill be looking closely at Rogue Motosport as they have 2 Red Tops WITH ONE being kept totally stock ecu and all with the addition of a small turbo |

People who know me , know that when l start talking about something l nearly always do it
![]() I just need to have it legal. Contacted Rogue last night and they said to call back in a months time. What they are first doing is get the stock Beams to run on a Aftermarket ECU . Its a LINK. Apparently the new unit also has VVTi control. Its cheaper than a MoTec and when they are 100% sure it runs they will move on to the turbo conversion. This engine will be stock and the turbo they are looking at is small most likely from a Deisel |

You could also try a KKK Turbo from a Volkswagen. Very small about the size of your fist, almost no lag, and cheap to find here anyways. Also KKK is one of the best turbo makers out there.

Angelo, I'll be down having my LINK ECU fitted next month at Rogue (lightning will have to strike me to have to put it off again) -I'll let you know what's happening there as I was trying to follow their build earlier in the year but I think it's been a relatively slow project. Last time I was there I think they had the LINK ECU set-up and the engine was running OK in N/A mode with a short "joiner" pipe fitted in place of the turbo. We'll see next month.

Got the chance to drive at turbo MR2. W ent fast , really fast ! My driving skills with a turbo are not there at all . felt so uneasy with turns. When that kick comes in **** on the turn. Whereas l can push my beams and its so well controlled
Mind you this guy was so impressed at the speed and agility of my car and wanted to have a better look if l had a SC or turbo. So l have to say the turbo is not for me. With the contact im looking at the SC set up using the Rotrex. This is new for the MR2 with no installs done at all. But a dozen have been done on the Celica 2ZZ. My questions are Is the 2ZZ a stronger engine than ours ? A few have been done with injector up size to 630cc but no upgrade of their stock fuel pump . Is our fuel pump stronger than the 2 ZZ ? Mind you ill only be getting 440 cc. Are the RC injectors reputable ? The SC pulley will limit my increase to about 8 psi maximum roughly 260 HP. What do you guys reckon , Can our engine handle it without comprimising the engine. Man these guys are running stock internals with CR 11.5 : 1 AND ARE BOOSTING 13 psi with no problems. Getting 325 HP From an engine thats roughly 160 HP ! With a MoTec and the right tuner will it idle perfectly and do all what the factory ECU does perfectly. That is idle, start up , cold/hot and not loose the beautiful revving engine ste up l have now. In other words totally transparent ? Lastely anyone else considering also SC set up as to set the machining in CAD will just be a bit extra BUT if no one is interested l can save a bit as it wont be necessary because it will be custom. The way it will be set up is totally invisible even to a trained eye. And i will use the clip engine for all the necessary designing. Cheers |
