Holy Chit! Rogue Making Turbo Package!!!
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=111192
OMG what we all have been waiting for! Actual documented turbo project for a BEAMS Redtop. We have heard about them, we even have seen a few but never had we been able to get a hold of any actual documentation. Now its here. Im keeping up with this thread for awhile. |

Nice....But is it functional? Doesn't look like the car was driven, or the turbo even mounted.
However.....I find this intersting..... Quote:
Well I'm stoked that its been done before, however I wish we could see some documentation or a full write-up on this, hell....a dyno plot would be sweet but again, I don't think this engine has been ran. Edit: ooops...missed this part --> The whitetop engine has been built but never used, while most other components have been assembled into a car and tested with a standard BEAMS engine. The turbocharger has never been used. Last edited by PHOENIX; 01-21-2009 at 12:16 AM. |

And just for clarification, its a private sale and says nothing about rogue making a Turbo kit for the Beams. Honestly, I can't see a company building a turbo kit for the redtop beams with how many members we have and the cost of the kit since it would most likely be made to order.
Also, this kit cost him $12k+ to build! wow, I bet the electronics had something to do with that. He is selling it for $7600.00 which actually is a good deal. If I didn't have an engine and wanted a Turbo Beams, I would just buy that one since its all done and pieced together. Man I would love to ask him a million questions ![]() |

^ Buddy ive bought parts and spoken to him quite a few times.
Last i spoke a few weeks the project was canned ?................ So got no idea. They were also looking at a mild turbo set up. Link ecu is still relative not that expensive RST could give a better idea whats happening over there. |

So PHOENIX get off your ass and start building and be Number ONE ![]() l dont believe Rogue has any plans for a kit. |

Yeah, I had no idea the link ECU was available and could run VVT-I. Its really cheap compared to most ECU's and looks to be half the price of a Brashboy Apexi setup.
I think I found my new EMS. Hell, even the tuning software for it is free. I think the Apexi Tuning software is $400 bucks. |

Sorry guys in my excitement I didnt realize this was a one off and was thinking they were making a kit. Though one could easily use their list to make your own and ask about making another manifold.
Yes the Link ECU is quite cheap compared to most others and Rogue has a base map for the BEAMS. |

I've mentioned this project a few times on threads on here. I was first introduced to it when they swapped my engine back in 2007. The plan was to build this blueprinted / strengthened engine -but to qualify a turbo'd BEAMS in principle in Patricks MK 3 using a stock red top. That engine was sitting in their back room -they wouldn't release much info on it at the time as I recon they'd done an awful lot of reverse engineering from the snippits of info I did get. They had the stock engine in the MK3 running on the Link over a year ago now but just bypassed the turbo with a straight pipe on the manifold. Pretty sure it ran OK -but there was no petrol in the MK3 when they went to crank it when I was there so I never heard it running. I am not sure they ever did swap the turbo on the MK3. But they've fitted the same ECU on mine and also recently entered the 24h Britcar endurance race with a MK3 fitted with the new G4 Storm fitted since (although unfortunately they didn't finish the race). I've been talking to Patrick now and again for updates on this project -but as it's a personal one and Rogue have been very busy I get the impression it has sat for so long that it was time for a new idea (I guess that can happen to anyone). A real shame because I was just waiting for the nod that they had the smaller turbo fitted to the stock red top to make the final decision whether to go FI or not. The smaller turbo they handed to me once was tiny in comparison with what I was expecting -I think they were aiming for something like 5-6psi from it. I guess I don't have big enough balls to be the guinea pig for a turbo set-up yet. Bump up the for sale thread, it's going to be an awesome engine when it's finished. I'm even juggling some finances on paper to see if I can buy it -but I think it's out of my reach so far. I need to speak to Matt at Rogue today anyway so I'll see what Patrick says at the same time. |

When Lyndon set my ECU up he did the cold starting and some road mapping first but left setting the cam control side of things until we got to the dyno. Think at the time he said he wouldn't set the cams up without a controlled environment in case there was any chance of contact. Took a little over 3.5hours on the dyno whereas I think Lyndon said it's normally an hour or so for regular non VVT-i engines. Don't think he fancied setting up a Black Top after he finished with mine, one variable cam was enough to deal with. |

^ Cool man, I'm sure he has the Base Map though for the Beams since he messed with yours.
I PM'd them the night before last with no response yet. I hope they answer atleast a few of my questions, I think I want the Link G3 for my setup. |

Just remember PHOENIX the G3 XLEM is now discontinued and I think the support for it had dropped (I had my XLEM for over a year before I could get it fitted). The G4 Storm's the one now available from Link.
...I got the impression a base map was already provided in the ECU anyway. Least enough to get the engine running. |

No idea about worldwide prices mate -we always seem to pay more in UK. I think you have to E-Mail Link before they'll give you a price.
Thor Racing are the UK distributors (3 dorrs down from Rogue). .....They have the base price at £787 not incl mapping -there's usually a deal offered there. BUT I haven't checked the specs so not too sure if that's a VVT-i model or not. STORM G4 - Thor Racing (Japanese Performance Car Tuning) ....oops advert says VVT-i so that puts it on a par with the previous XLEM price I think. I don't think it's got the same input / output counts as the XLEM has. I don't really know much about it though -never looked into it as I'd already bought. PS: How do I get rid of web link titles to show just the full URL?? Last edited by RST; 01-23-2009 at 11:21 AM. |

just put ww.blahblah.com instead of the www.
I get annoyed with it too sometimes ![]() Thanks for the info....I'm really interested in this setup but I have a feeling I'm not going to get the pre-support I want to see if I can get it to do what I want to do from Rogue. |

Dave Link are NewZealand made. Beg Roman , he could be just around the corner from them.
Plus your exchange with NZ is excellent. BUT Rogue definitely has the knowledge with it. |

Message from Patrick of Rogue....
"I spoke to Link's UK dealer yesterday and I understand that Link ECUs are now marketed in the US under the Vi-Pec brand name. (http://www.vi-pec.com/)" So I guess I'm going to look t the Vi-Pec but will keep the link in mind. |
