I've been searching a little and havent found a good write-up on how to install a beams in an mr2 or atleast a beams from a celica seeing that thay are more common and cheaper to pick up if there is a write up please link me to it if not I'm thinking about making one as I'm in the process of the swap now! I've been taking many many pics so if this sounds like a good idea I will do a write up and any info I may miss can be sent to me and i can add it or you can and anyones help is appreciated!

Yeah I've seen this write up but no pics theres alot thats not there, no offense to Roman it's definitely helpful but as I started going through what I have to do I realized theres alot more little things you have to do to covert a celica to an mr2 plus Roman's write up is more from a financial aspect. I just figured a good old how-to would be nice for future swappers!

Also the transmission "cables" and the power steering (in my case at least).
And don't forget to flip the stickers!

No power steering it has to be removed, I also made a stainless plate to block coolant passage where that big altenator bracket was looks much better! the water outlets I think can work with proper hoses but not 100%,and the tranny is a little complicated if your using the celica's in my case its an lsd so I deff gonna use it and I read the write up on how to swap it over but it wasnt for our tranny it was for the blacktop 20v to the mk1 tranny I believe! so hopefully all will go well as I plan to do this in the next week or two!

Also how do I get in to the Beams Owners Group? Is there some crazy initiation to the cult! lol just wondering how to get the little red writing!

This is what I did with the coolant passage
Before

What I Used

After

I think it looks alot better than that big alt. bracket there! I used the spare bolt from the power steering bracket to bolt it down!

Hmmm, interesting as I dont recall having that problem... Pretty sure part of the engine mount, or something like that usually blocks that hole off? I cant for the life of me remember what, but I'm sure there's something that goes there for the MR2, hahahaha.

P.S. This thread Celica beams 3SGE into SW20... doable? (yep!)

Might be of a little help?

Apart from the dipstick being a PITA to get to, and the rear water outlet needing changing, it's mostly smooth sailing apart from wiring.

Yeh Roman, on the MR2 beams there is a bracket there. Its used to mount the engine hook, also to hold another bracket that holds wiring and also the engine mount ( the banana thing ) also bolts to it.

Ild like to know which engine mount he used ?

Aahh yep I was sure that it tied into the engine mount somehow, but I thought that cant have made sense if some people use the celica alternator in the 'high' position.

Im using the 5s mount and the part that comes up to this plate one bolt still fits to make it work thats why I made it somewhat thin to ensure it still bolts up I havent taken pics yet because of school and tests!

Thanks for the link Roman I figured thered be some more little stuff as Im still in the process of pulling the 5s out !

A full write-up isn't all that necessary. Since the beams was an option for the mr2, it's about the same proposition as installing a replacement 5sfe.

The most important thing is knowing which items to reuse from your 5sfe and what you need to buy.

Here's the major items to reuse:

-all motor mounts
-alternator and bracket
-crank pulley
-inlet and outlet hoses
-transmission (or at least the selector shaft, and other tranny hardware if a beams tranny is being converted)
-axles

Here's what you'll want to buy:

-gen3+ water outlet housing
-gen3+ bpipe
-aftermarket camry v6 intake (if you didn't get a maf pipe)
-If converting an AT beams engine, a 3sg(t)e flywheel and clutch set (the 5s flywheel doesn't fit)
-If using an MT beams engine, an uprated 5sfe clutch will work. The stock 5sfe clutch feels barely adequate.

Another good thing to do is to remove a section of the engine lid support brace. If you leave the brace in there, it will make it impossible to do a timing belt later.

Here's a place on ebay.co.uk that has a listing for a gen3+ bpipe at a good price:

TOYOTA MR2 2.0i 16v CAT FRONT PIPE on eBay, also, Toyota, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 11-Mar-09 03:10:51 GMT)

Haven't asked if they ship international, but if they do, this should be a much better option than trying to get an exhaust shop to make somthing up.
