How long did it take for delivery? From JAP parts depot, or elsewhere?

21 DAYS EXACTELY from my local Toyota dealership. And when i ordered they told me it had to come from Japan and it had to be made. 2 days later they said that i would have it by the 21 st. GEE THATS TODAY
Toyotas Australia infrastucture is very good and always has been.
Having correct part numbers is a must thou. Having them everything can be got.
As ive said its only the trim that has started to dissapear .

Well the block came over by air , hows that. Great thing is its all figured in the price.
Gee if i had to ship this to the States probably would cost >$500.
BTW when im finished getting my forged stuff will have the pistons , new , for sale . They are No2's.
Interest has already been shown by a local beams member for my short block.Well i guess its NEW . Not many crazy people in the world to build an engine from spare parts

Had a look at the block and found something interesting. When i bought the short block originally it had AN ENGINE NUMBER STAMPED ON IT .This one doesnt and toyota said that is always the case with just the block. As it stands the bearings are 3 with the pistons 2,
Also the cap ends come with the block and there is no part number for them , SO DONT BREAK them or its a new block. Same goes for the caps that hold the cameshafts in place, they only come with a cylinder head.

Main bearing caps & Cam caps aren't sold seperately as the norm on 'most' newer engines. They're line bored along with the block/head and aren't interchangeable.

Just an update.
All my parts have come in from japan for my short block or should i say medium block as ive got everything new again thats under the head.
Sample rod has been sent to ARGO to make my new forged ones. The turn around will be 3 weeks so should have it built in say 4 - 5 weeks.
Ill have photos for you all this time around.
BTW as before all the items i bought >170 were all available. Just in case anyone wants to build a new block.

You need to get them measured.

Thing is Rods when made will be measured as will the crankshaft . Once its measured , have to order the correct size bearing. But Toyota doesnt have measurements for the bearings only Mark 1,2,3.
Without the sizes will have to order mark 2 then size it up or down ,but as such no Bearings in Australia, ex Japan.

Thought ild share this with you guys.
I really wanted to see the design of the piston in the Caldina, Remember this is a turbo running 9:1 with the RODS the same as our Red Top Beams, so i bought one.
HP is up to 265 compared with the gen 3 sitting at 245 HP.
So Toyota quite obviously reckons the Rods are ok to this HP .
But the Pistons are a different story. I will post pictures but surfice to say they are different.
Heavier with more aluminium.
They are also coated on the skirts.
Wrist pins are longer, hence wider pin bore.
Caldina has no oil drains on the pin boss, but have MUCH more material , at least 3 cms
where as the Red Top is 2 cms and the Red Top has a drilled hole.
Ring positioning is also different and sizes.
Ring one the same
Ring 2 Caldina slightly thicker
Ring 3 Caldina Nearly half !
Domes are different with the Caldina having a dish.
Im getting to anal again, so im letting a real motosport engineer do the final design for me.
One thing for sure is that even though the RODS are the same the Caldina Pistons are definitely Beefier , something that i can see that would be needed for FI and forging.

The way i see it, given the rods are the same Beams and Caldina wouldnt it be better to forge pistons that look like the Caldinas from the centre of the wrist pin down and the Beams from the centre of the wrist pin and up ? then just scallop the top out to reduce the CR
Also remember these Caldina pistons are from a 2007 engine, newer

Update : Rods are in Argo . Aussie made , sweet
Ok, engine block , crankshaft of to builder next week. Going to use the SRK head to retrofit everything to work out the CR then its off to get the pistons made

Had a meeting with the engineer. Amazing insight. So as we can get the forged pistons made he is going to do a few things on the SRK engine.
Firstly accurately calculate the OEM CR by filling the area above the piston with water and noting the volume used.
Then recalculate for the forged piston.
Use plasticine to get the actual shape so as to determine the squish area, so it can be minimised to decrease any chance of detonation. This realy needs to be done as there are no figures on it and since the OEM beams piston isnt machined on the top who knows what it is.
This will also give us an indication to the valve clearance and shape of the head for the forged item
The piston will be modeled more like the Turbo piston and he will use his race proven positioning and thicknesses of the piston rings
Also recalculate the piston to cylinder wall c;earance taking into bonsideration the expansion of the alloy used in the forged piston.

Dam thats a few things and involved to get a forged piston !!!!!!!!
