OH MY GOD DAMN FREAKING GOD

so i noticed a bit of a scraping/knocking sound coming from my right front wheel....went to have a looksie.....got the car jacked up, wobbled the wheel and it had a little bit of a lose-ish feel to it. Wheel bearing is messed up, i already knew ahead of time from the sound it makes while driving....

Took the whole mess apart and when I got to the wheel nut I could loosen the thing BY HAND

I almost fell over backwards!!!!!!!!!!!1

that son a gun should have 137 ft/lbs torque on it WHAT THE SCREWY HELL??

I'm raising hell tomorrow at the dealer where they installed it last!

lesson to be learned: get these sorts of things done at the shop, have a very close look at it yourself after!

Can't trust anyone can you. Not good mate. Raising hell sounds good to me! One thing though it's kinda comforting to know that Australia is not the only country with dodgy mechanics
Easy but can also be a very costly oversight on their behalf.

yeah previous dodgy idiots were these punks that "fixed" a tire for my mom and put an inner tube into a tubeless wheel/tire combo....14" inner tube into a 15" wheel/tire combo....this screwed the tire's belt up and caused the tire to become egg-shaped....this got real expensive, strut got messed up, all sorts of bushings etc

got free wheel bearing & install out of them

When did you hear these sounds? Everytime when car is going or just on bumpy road? I hear some troubling noises myself (on bumpy road) and neither I nor the mechanics I visited so long knows what the heck that is :S

if you are on a bumpy road it is either your bushings (swing arm, shock tower, ball joints, ends etc) or your control links, those are the ones that hold the sway bars etc....those make a hell of a rattle when they shake around on bumpy roads.

the sound of wheel bearing is this slow grinding/clicking noise, not CV joint clicking but rather it sounds as though there is a little bar being flicked. You will hear it when going in a straight line, driving slowly, awful scraping sound, both moving in reverse and forwards, it will sound as well when making a turn but not the same as a CV joint that's dead/dry. One real easy way to check your wheel bearing is to jack up the car on the side you suspect is bad, high enough so that the tire clears the ground and see if you are able to shake the wheel, there should be no play in the hub at all. If you can shake the tire and it obviously goes side to side, then wheel bearing = dead.

Thanks! Already done that, and no shaking so I can exclude the wheel bearing and the ball joint. My strut mounts and sway bars are all new, bushings are in good condition, so it's only the tie rods left. Or that sound doesn't even come from the suspension...

I had a dealership not tighten my lugnuts, I was driving and my wheel felt kinda wobbly, so I went out and moved the lugnuts with my hand and they started turning, 3 of them were loose and I was like "Holy ****" if my car fell I would've sued

tie-rods makes an awful rattle any time there is any little suspension action it will rattle & clunk.
You might want to check the drive-shaft support bracket, the one that goes from the tranny to the right-hand driveshaft....there is that bracket that holds the driveshaft up, it has a bearing too....those don't take alot of abuse, but might wanna check it too

Yeah once I just got some new tires put on, was loading MR2 onto the trailer to head down for a trackday... and luckily noticed that all of my wheel nuts were finger tight on the left rear!

Gave em a good bollocking over that one.
