Well it's an AFM

Air flow meter.... it's a sensor on the intake piping who read the amount of air going into the TB

MAF is Mass Air flow, normally used on turbo engine like the 3sgte... most of them are OLD and use the ''baffle type'' like the 3sgte

MAP is Manifold Absolute pressure.... like the tercel/paseo and other... it's a tiny sensor normally bolted on the firewall and connected to the intake manifold by a tiny piping (like 1/4'' flex tube)... normally use Vaccum to give his directive

feel free to correct me

One other thing you might want to consider is a oil catch can as its benefitial to reduce the amount of oil in your throttle body.
Also while you have your block dismanteled ready for honing tap into the block for the oil return for oil return ( catch can ) and oil supply for the turbo as like the GEN 3.
There are many pics for the turbo oil supply but the catch can return has been hard to find.
Man even on this forum and others i have asked assistance from the gen 3 owners in a pic and have nothing

IF you look in the underside of the cam cover, it's actually quite well baffled to make the oil condense there, and drip back down into the head, instead of out of the breather.

So kinda like a built in oil catch can already.

iLD Have to agree , those baffels are nice . But im looking at it from a FI point of view. There is going to be more air flow hence more suction at the crankvent. I guess thats why Toyota included an oil catch can with their upgraded GEN 3.

Oh, really?

Didnt know that.

For the Caldina only?

I guess they needed to, to get the emissions rating for a turbo motor, which didnt matter so much in the early 90s lol.

Yes.
Get a tuning house that knows AEM.
Rule of thumb: if you settle on an ECU, make for damned sure there folks near you that know/sell/deal/authorized the ECU you end up getting.

weee.

Same as mine
Just give you a heads up on something im doing on the fuel rai.
Using a Altezza rail as it has an extra exit for a fuel pressure sensor.
Using the red top fuel lines.
Using a caldina fuel dampender as its a screw on one so as i can attach at the othe end of the fuel regulator.
Amazingly how toyota designed the rail essentially the same just different tappings for each model .

I hear you mate loads to do !!!!!!!!!!!

I'd definitely recommend a catch can as well. At the moment I've only got a breather filter fitted to the PCV(?) in the cam cover and after a hard drive i.e. every drive, there is a layer of oil on the engine lid fan kit and that general area!

I've got a catch can in place, just waiting for some hose to plumb it in, hopefully tomorrow. At first we're just going to monitor the amount of oil collected and if it is quite a bit it will be drained back to the sump. The catch can wll not vent into the intake system as the oil clogs up the chargecooler, coats the turbo, reduces the octane rating of your fuel etc. I wouldn't recommend it unless you really have to due to emissions laws where you are.

So overall, I agree with Mandalay and recommend a catch can in FI applications although it may be less of an issue at lower boost pressures (I'm still running 1.5bar ~21PSI).

Hi,

Missed this bit earlier, have you decided who will be mapping it or any thoughts on it? I'm going to get mine remapped soon by a different tuner, so I can let you know how that goes. Nice ECU BTW, I love my G3 and the displaylink.
