Hi,

The best converter is probably the one sold by Stef who can be found on mr2oc.co.uk you can also buy them from twosrus.co.uk but it seems to be down at the moment and it's easier to just get one from Stef direct. The main advantage of these converters is that it retains a KPH output which is used to control the power steering, AT, etc.

Having said that, I've used a cheap ebay converter on my car for years with no problems, if the power steering does switch off at 80mph instead of 50mph its never been a problem.

HTH,

Nik

I have never used a convertor but its really simple to just do it in ur head. Just drop the 0 off the number and multuply by 6. For example 120 km = 72 mph 60km = 36mph. So just do it in ur head and its really simple. Also if i remember correcly its 1.6 km to every mph.

Junkyards should have some *similar* clusters to sell you.
The thing about ordering a new gauge is that it will be 0 miles/kilometers....and yes you can just buy the speedo by itself.

edit: in fact I bought an entire cluster from a 2002 corolla to mess with & figure out how Toyota does its grounding/signals-wires, from a junkyard for under 20$ USD

You can also make your own cluster plates. This way you can alter the position of the numbers and switch from mph to km and back, if you just want to read the speed right. However, your counter will still count in kph
I made myself these: http://img.carstyling.hu/usercars/00/02/44/61/14.jpg

There is a guy in our Toyota Sports Club who sells these shift lights. It's manual sais that the brand is "RPM-2" but I haven't find anything on the net with this name.
It's quite simple though, you get a 3 stand switch (memory#1, N/A, memory#2), which you can use to program the thing. You just have to rev the engine on the desired RPM, and switch to memory#1 or #2 for a moment. It also comes with two LEDs, which you only have to change for the economy LEDs.

I haven't installed it yet though, I was busy with my power problem and other stuff :S

even more simple than I thought it was!
I was thinking of disassembling the MSD Digital Shift Light and stuffing it's parts in my gauges cluster...

I was going to say what Nick said and contact Stef through imoc or mr2oc seeing as you're in the UK. There's loads of electronic adapters available though -the general consensus is to stay away from cheapo ebay ones I think.

BTW I never really get this -I thought everything HAD to be converted to mph when it came into the UK -thought it would be caught at the MOT at least but loads seem to slip through??

Ok so can you take the whole white celica beams cluster gauge install my celica. Then i go and find a 3rd gen 3sge cluster gauge and swap out the rpm gauge plate and speedometer plate that goes to 240km and install it on the the SS-III cluster.

So i will have the 3sge beams white gauge installed in my car, but i want it too look like a 3rd gen 3sge beams cluster, Since the UK speedometer goes to 240km/h and it will look all black, instead of the original white background.

Does anybody understand what i mean? Sorry but i have trouble explaining things sometimes.

ok let me rephrase myself.

i know it is a must do install an ss-III beams cluster in my 94 celica. which im perfectly fine with that. But i want to take out the white speedometer gauge that read 180 km/h and swap it out for a speedometer guage that reads 240 km/h. its the 240 km/h gauge that is used in UK celica's that come with 3rd gen 3sge.

What happened to you in elementary school dude? Did you get screwed up or something?
So what you want to do is stick in the UKDM 240Km/H speedometer in the SS-3 Gauge Cluster....okay so order the UKDM Speedo then...it will cost alot but you can order it. Now I don't know if the pins/wiring within the gauge cluster will match up. I can tell you that 5SFE/3SFE don't even do that from the _ExAcT_ same model car....USDM ST204-5SFE versus EverywhereElse-DM ST204-3SFE certainly didn't....why not try to pull the gauges cluster that came with your Celica and swap parts with the BEAMS cluster?

ha ya i dont know what happend in elementary school! I did good in school until i hit high school, but that was becuase i was lazy in school. I always managed to pass english.

ya the only problem with my current cluster is that it is in mph and the rpm gauge redlines at 6,200 rpm. I dont really mind the white ss-III cluster gauge i just would like to have an accurate reading of the car after i hit 180 km/h. An apexi rsm should do the trick right??

180Km/H = 111.9 MpH = your ass in prison in California no?
Besides that, how "legal" is it to have a Km/H-only speedometer here in the states, or in your case California....I suspect the po-po's all across the land might not like it because you have the ability to say "I don't know how fast I was going ossifer, my gauge reads in European..." or some crap like that.

You could be the really cool guy and get a 300Km/H gauge set from TRD....

I am 99.999999% sure that Toyota's all use a standard speed sensor to send the SPD signal to the speedometer, and it just depends on what domestic market gauges you have for it to read the proper Km/H, Mp/H, Parsecs, Warp speed, Super Mario Brothers Warp-Flute etc
What goes on inside the Speedo, as far as I have noticed, is that there either extra or missing resistors which define one speedo-gauge to read Km/H or Mp/H
As for the RPM, you could go MSD Digital Shift Light, I have the BEAMS cluster 100% working and the MSD unit more or less for shifting notice, eventho I know my engine well enough to know what sound the RPM range makes when it's a great time to shift. It's just a nice warning should I be looking at the road more that listening to what the engine is doing....besides that I have it set to flash about 300-RPM *before* the redline so as to have me shift on time enough.
