Quick Update

Motor is back in the car and work has been completed on all the little things I needed done!

Should be able to drive it home this weekend to finish the wiring and calibration of the gauges before it gets a light tune for my intake/exhaust setup.

Will need to look over the engine bay and check space issues with my quads which now run a saussage style filter.... how much or how little it rubs on the firewall I guess I will soon find out!

Good times ahead!!

Alrighty time for update me thinks...

WTF Auto has finished with the car and done a number of things I needed done. To name a few I've had an air filter and plate installed for the ITBs, oil pressure, oil temp and water temp sensors installed for gauges, new radiator mounts installed, fixed damaged brake line, new clutch bearing for tranny and engine was prepped and fitted accordingly with all fluids topped up. The car however doesn't fired up as of yet so I need to go over all the wiring to diagnose the issue!

I had a quick look on Saturday and couldn't find anything out of place, all plugs were in correctly, fuel was flowing and power seems to be in the right locations but doesnt fire up, turns over (click, click, click) but no ignition. I've hooked the MOTEC up to my laptop via the USB dongle but the MOTEC program can't find the MOTEC via the USB... there is power going to the MOTEC atleast through the main wire but will have to check the cables throughly next weekend when I have more time.

So not going yet but will leave a few more close up photos for you all for now!

Oil sensor installed & bottom radiator mounts

Plumbed for map sensor (from throttle, brake booster & fuel to map sensor)

Mount for throttle cable

Oil & temp sensors

Nice pics

Need to ask a couple of questions.
Don't you have a charcoal canister hooked up any more ?
Is that hose going from regulator to infront of the throttle flap ?
And are you using the same hose to feed your MAP ? i'ld maybe caution that because there would be fuel in that line. Toyota uses a filter on their Turbo vacuum line to their MAP.
Ild love to know how the MAP does its readings given its not supplied vacuum/pressure as a take off from a manifold.
Lastely your using the Factory location for your oil pressure sender so arent you using the oem unit to show low pressure in your instrument cluster ?

Last night I checked out the connection to the MOTEC and I was using a fresh install of the software and still couldn't get it to talk to the MOTEC which means there must be a wire somewhere that isnt plugged up correctly.

I shall sit down on the weekend and work out what is not connected correctly. There wouldn't have been much that was changed from when I had it connected last time so should fairly easy... I hope!

I shall read over your replies, check and get back to you, thanks!

- No I havn't hooked the canister up at this stage... emissions isnt a issue for me over here at the moment anyway.
- Its all new hoses but have disconnected it from fuel rail and ran to air as Glenn suggested but no difference so wasnt a issue in getting in running.
- That OEM Oil plug went to my cluster but seeing I no longer have a cluster its not needed anymore so Ive used the stock location and ran the wire to my new guage on the dash.

- As far as I know Earths are good but will need to confirm this.

Thanks all!

Any other ideas on what to check electronically before I sit down and nut it out this weekend?

Angry

Ok today I pulled all the wiring apart and then put it back the way I knew it was meant to go and what do you know MOTEC fired up first go!!

HOWEVER

New problem has arisen which is fuel related! Some how I have had fuel leak out 2 of my throttle bodies:

And now whenever I attempted to start the car I get this noise (which is a different noise to what I had before):

SO time to clean it all up, test coils and injectors without fuel and then see how we go!

<sigh>

Someone upstairs doesn't want me to have BEAMS car of fury! haha

You have a different fueling system i thought ? One that Glenn has devised.
If im not mistaken the first sound is your fuel pump ? correct ? Or is it the injectors spraying fuel ?
If you only go to accessory and leave it there does that first sound stop ? It should once you have pressure as with most cars if it is the fuel pump.
If its the injectors spraying something is really wrong with the MoTec wiring

It sounds like it doesnt want to kick over. I dare say if fuel is coming out pf the throttle bodys your cylinders might be full of fuel Could be the case if your fuel pump doesnt stop or your injectors going without ignition. Take a spark plug out and have a look if i was you.

Gee Glenn is going to be the best person to answer you buddy as he would know how you have you fueling system set up.

Is that the starter clunking around? Sounds like it's hitting the flywheel gear sort of, but it seems to be loose-ish on the gears when engaging.
Fuel pump priming the fuel lines & pressure regulator is normal.
Fuel on your 2 injectors coming out might suggest they are stuck open by means of dirt/scum/debris.

edit: you *might* want to check in MoTeC to see what it is doing with those two injectors...perhaps it's the programming that is holding/causing them to open.

I would separate the vacuum lines MANDALAY is concerned about also....just to start off with and then in steps connect them back to one source, something tells me it's not 100% kosher what is going on there...and I'm not a Jew. Some of the biggest "OMG HOW STUPID AM I?!" moments I have had in engine tinkering stems from doing vac-lines wrong....

I think the clunk is the starter not engaging.
The hiss sound is injectors . Are the injectors new ? Like Puretone said i agree, MoTec or stuck injector............
Dont like all the units in one vacuum line.

Thanks for the comments all!!

Will have a drawing for you soon MANDALAY, cheers!

Ok so on the weekend I checked coils and injectors and they were all correct and firing in the right order. Managed to get the motor cranking after playing with the starter motor (might have been a little rough after sitting still for so many months) however MOTEC showed these errors:

Which basically means I needed to look at my Ref & Sync wires which I checked and discovered that the earth wire was actually detached from the plug:

Hopefully should be able to grab a spare one from a mate otherwise I shall test the motor again after a quick hook up with some aligator clips…

…slowly but surely its getting there! I finish house sitting over the next week so will have some more time to focus on it then.

Farking hell it's always a stray ground wire!! Hey check that your MAP sensor is all plugged and happy too, that manifold pressure error looks su****ious.

I got nothing against grouping vac lines to one point, just that it's a point for making dumb errors in the beginning. Better to group them one by one at a later point in time when everything else is sorted. One thing about grouped vac lines is that it can become erratic and/or inaccurate reads from being grouped at one point....specially with the more dainty MAP sensors

Im concerned about fuel going into that line. most cars OEM like Toyota have a filter befor their MAP, even the BOV. And really there is no inlet manifold

Unfortuately not yet... I've fixed the plug issue but still having the same errors come up on the MOTEC:

Might have to source a MOTEC dealer over here to have a look as I don't have much time on my hands with work now days.

Try GTI Performance Center in Bibra Lake. They are a motec specialist.
