traction control

Hi guys, my name is jorge and I´m from Costa Rica Central America. I´m on the way to end my project which is a turbo black top beams into my AE86 for drifting. I have the stock computer and and greedy turbo kit. Have a few questions about the traction control wiring and ecu....

1-What you do with the traction control, do you use it?
2-If not, how you overcome this?, I found in the traction control wiring there´s a lot of ABS wiring also, so if I ended cutting those....it would affect the engine response/performance?
3-I have the possibility to use an AEM stand alone....could I get rid of that traction control unit/ecu?
4-Could I change the intake plenum for another one that didn´t utilize the traction control unit?

Thanks A LOT for the help....

Blacktop motor has an electronically controlled throttle body, you can only open it about 1/4 of the way 'manually'...

The rest of the way, the ECU decides if it wants to let you open the throttle or not, it gives traction control this way, just shuts the throttle body if yer wheel spinning.

If you're going to an aftermarket ECU, shouldnt be too hard to just run a normal throttle body that is 100% controlled with the throttle cable.

If you want launch control or traction control, set up an ignition cut so it sends some fireballs out the rear, ahaha

Also...

This thread is worthless without pics!

Thanks Roman for the quick response, sure I will post pics of all the mayhem....I have tons, I already instaled the motor , GT4 brakes and rotors, fully HKS suspention all around (taked from the donor altezza), altezza gear box, model F rearend and some other toys on my ae86.

ok, so as per your explanation I can't get rid of the TRC using the OEM ECU?.....and the only way of NOT using the TRC in order to get the throttle fully open is getting an aftermarget ECU and another throttle body?...

here is some crappy pic

Looks good!

What diff are you using, LSD? Can fit an Altezza LSD into an F series rear, that's what I'm doing.

Yeah as best I understand it, there's no way around the traction control with standard throttle body/ECU. Not that you'd run standard ECU with a turbo setup I guess.

Perhaps the Altezza guys have come up with some tricks though.

I'm using OEM ECU + AEM FIC along with the turbo kit and I'm using the F series rear end (28mm... hi-lux)

hi folks, lots of testing here, so that’s why I was in a kind of no posting-mode for a while...a little update in my project...

OEM ECU: big issues here, the ECU tends to lean out the fuel when she senses so much air, so I get rid of her and the FIC and go to a FULL programmable AEM ECU....

TRC: get rid of the OEM system and get a mechanical operated (cable) throttle body.....

all the fabrication is done, brakes and suspension finished, the car is already on a dyno trying no get nice numbers.....I will keep you updated.

Here in costa rica there´s a few company who imported front clips and I bought one that includes transmission, motor, ECU and came with a nice Gready turbo kit on it....I supose the previus owner crashed the altezza because there was some damage......the motor is on a stock internals and the manifold came with it.......

I have one last question, I need to know, to set up the AEM ECU, how many teeth is the OEM crank?....anyone?

I will post some pictures later....

Stock engine , well with what ive seen i think the rods will let go, they are way thin and bottom heavy. Having said that however they are the same rods as used in the Caldina turbo , what 250 horses but a lower compression ratio.
