What are your goals? IE: power, weight, parts availability, etc??? 3vz...go with a 92-93 camry. 1mz...go with a 96-99 camry. Those are probably the easiest swaps.

A basic search will net you a lot of info. But basically the 3vz is an iron block with aluminum heads, the 1mz is all aluminum. 3vz runs off odbI so is a lot easier to tune...especially if you're looking to get that kind of horsepower out of it without spending a crap ton of money. The stock internals of the 3vz should handle upwards of 400hp. 5-600whp seems a bit excessive for anything but drag or HP freaks. Either way...you're gonna need some good tuning and a big turbo. Best of luck...

The block it came with is a cast iron block. Takes a lot to crack that.

3vz for simplicity, 1mz because its newer and lighter. Main reason I crossed the 1mz off my list had to do with california emissions. If you don't have strict emissions laws then go for the 1mz or if you wanna go turbo without any internal work go 3vz.
