I wrote a review on my sound deadener, Damplifier Pro, in the Product Review forum here (http://www.mr2.com/forums/product-reviews/Toyota-MR2-74254-product-review-damplifier-pro-sound-deadener-secondskinaudio.html). I still stand by it.

Here are some pics from the install, took 8 hours. Jordan did pretty much all of it while I got in the way. He had some excellent ideas of how to plan it out and apply it even though he'd never used the stuff before. All that gutting and only one scratch (from me when I was re-installing the seats :lol:).

Partial spring/strut parts list

This is only part of the list to get back to a spring/strut layout. There's an additional $600 at TwosRus I'll need to spend for a total of about $1,800.

A way cheaper alternative is to get different inserts, but no one seems to know if anything other than TEIN dampers will fit Super Streets. I'm delving into semi-uncharted waters. I may have to go to a more hardcore car board to get my questions answered, like an auto-x or drifting board.

Springs/Shocks

Well, I've got to sit down and think about what I'm going to do with my suspension. Just before my hardtop was wrecked by that red light bandit, I had TRD/'93 springs w/ Koni yellows installed. What a great ride, I want that back.

My current TEIN (pronounced tane) coil-overs just ain't cutting it even after tuning them until my fingers bled and I was dizzy from thinking about it. I think I've got a blown shock, possibly two according to my tech. Their site states to replace them every two years! No thanks, I've never been one for the installment plan on anything including banks, medicine, insurance or cars. So I've got to reevaluate.

My choices:

* Koni or Bilstein inserts for the existing coil-overs, not even sure this is possible. Cost: maybe a grand which includes labor.
* New springs/shocks all around (which means new strut mounts, casings, the works...). Cost: closer to two grand including labor

My brain hurts already, damn coil-overs...

Ball joints/tie rods and JST

Does anyone read these things?

Within a few days I'm going to have all four of my ball joints and the two tie rods replaced. I was lazy and decided to go the expensive route and pick them up from TwosRUs rather than source them individually. They have a package deal and their service is second to none - like really, the best.

Because I've stopped doing work on my own cars since my Mustang Cobra days, I've elected to have a local guy put them in: Jordan at JST Tuning.

My God this guy can do almost anything I throw at him. Young guy who graduated along with his cute girlfriend at the top of their auto mechanics class (1st & 2nd place). He used to own a '91 AMP N/A and he tore that thing apart, down to the nuts & bolts. He swapped in a turbo 3S just before he sold it to go back to school. I was about to consider it but, well, I've already got a turbo. :lol:

He really knows his stuff and if he doesn't, he'll admit it and do research on it so he does know the next time you see him. He's not afraid of tearing into any problem whether electrical, engine, body, whatever - doesn't seem to phase him. One thing I appreciate about him is he doesn't rest his automotive tools on your paint job while he's doing his work like so many others. He knows you care about your car, so he does too. He also installed my sound deadener recently, a very professional job. I assisted here & there, but he did most of the 8 hour job. I feel lucky to have him.

I'm still in contact with the PO, good guy - very knowledgeable. He owns a 350Z now and he's slowly modding it. I checked w/ him, he never replaced the ball joints. I think it's time after 21 years. Besides, I get to watch Jordan's girl ride and groom her two beautiful horses on their acreage. ;)

Project Update time

Well it's been ages since i been here, considering most of my activities is spammed on my signature :lol:

While most of my projects vary from insane to mild they are generally clean and stubble. I don't fancy useless things like CF in or out of the car so while my car looks stock, it's far from it :rofl:

I'm hopping my endeavors will inspire or spite most of you (more so on the latter) to do something constructive. This coming from a noob who use to be all ghetto now does nicer stuff.

Pending Projects
* 1.3MZ-FE Project (http://www.mr2.com/forums/blogs/oteck/22-v6-1mz-3mz-fe-hybrid-project.html)-Troublesome Cam/Crank codes prevent it to idle. Currently under Investigation
-Harness going through a diet and remove all unnecessary leads
-New Evap hard lines need to be built but needs new routes for plumming
* Custom Rotary Climate Control (http://www.mr2.com/forums/mk2-interior-stereo-modifications/Toyota-MR2-62561-project-c3.html?highlight=rotary)-Currently on hold in search of CNC machnist to Cut a nicer Front plate and holder
-Toggle system needs to be built
-Missing JDM HVAC items
-LED needs to be placed
* Lexus LS430 Big Brakes (http://www.mr2.com/forums/show-off/Toyota-MR2-29400-new-brake-setup.html)-Rear bracket on the way with Drum mounts
-waiting for lazy Josh/CRW to finalize the axle plan
-Front bracket requires a re-design

Finished Projects
* LED Gauge Cluster (http://www.mr2.com/forums/interior-mods/Toyota-MR2-58760-im-so-bright.html)
* Power Folding Mirrors (http://www.mr2.com/forums/interior-mods/Toyota-MR2-56316-folding-mirror-project-1-a.html)
* Motorized Fog Lamps (http://www.mr2.com/forums/mk-2-mr2-sw20/Toyota-MR2-57775-motorized-fog-lamp-project-2-a.html)
* Lower Control arm End Links Mount (http://www.mr2.com/forums/mk2-braking-suspension-wheels/Toyota-MR2-66468-swaybar-mounts.html)-Currently untested, built on the cheap but effective if proven
* IS300 Complete Pedal Conversion (http://www.mr2.com/forums/show-off/Toyota-MR2-60330-complete-is300-celica-pedal-conversion.html)
* Lexus Interior Upgrade (http://www.mr2.com/forums/show-off/Toyota-MR2-64417-silly-glamour-door-mods.html)
* 20th Anniversary Stainless Door Sill (http://www.mr2.com/forums/interior-mods/Toyota-MR2-54989-jdm-door-sills-not-so-getto-way.html)
* RFID Push start alarm system (http://www.mr2.com/forums/mk2-interior-stereo-modifications/Toyota-MR2-65753-rfid-push-start.html#post715725)-Currently only known issue is the lack of auto window roll up which i have now found a solution for

Planning Projects
* Secret Project 10-It's a secret and an option JDM mr2 wish they had it
* Power Steering Commander-Module will adjust power steering assist via SPD signal like how speed cut defenders operate but on an opposite scale. instead of down-scalling the signal it will up-scale to prematurely nullify assist
-General purpose is to annoy the inferior non-power steering groups :devil: and also return some road feeling
* Window Motor Upgrade
* Windshield Wiper Motor Upgrade
* Auto-Dim Rear View Mirror
* LED Tail Lights
* LED Corner Lights
* LED Door Courtesy Light
* LED Door lock switch

91 Park brake issues...Help!!!

I have a 91 and since I've owned it my park break hasn't worked.
I replaced both rear cables yesterday with what seemed like adjusting it correctly.
I was wrong!
Heres the problem, when I replaced the cables the brake still doesn't work.
in fact it even made my foot brake weak until its pumped back up..
I have replaced one of the two calipers(10mo ago) and both rears w ceramics(10mo ago), and both rotors.
As long as I don't pull up on my park brake handle my foot break is fine.. when I pull my handle(at any time stopped or running) up my foot pedal becomes weak.. it can be pumped a couple times to make the foot brake work.
Now we took it back apart today. No matter how the cable is adjusted it still does not activate the park brake. Even if you grab the leaver on the caliper and manually pull it closed, the part on the caliper will just not stop the wheel. it still allows the wheel to spin by hand. so somehow the park brake doesn't work even if the cables are adjusted correctly. My brake fluid is fine and doesn't change(level) at all.
Toyota doesn't answer without of course.. BRING IT IN!
What is the problem? can anybody answer me on how to adjust this or what am I missing here. My buddy that is helping me works on cars daily and he's perplexed. I'm tired of not having a park brake and now it seems to be affecting my foot brake too.
Thanks for anyones help,
Mike

Have a little of a head ache with my mr2 and need some advice from people who know stuff about it. i know a newbie in mr2, but never the less. I have a 91 mr2 with greddy turbo kit. ( turbocharger, inter-cooler, piping). Once when i was driving one of the turbo couplers came off. i put it back on and weird stuff began to happen. Car doesnt accelerate smoothly now, i get to 2500rpms and car begins to choke a little and feels like it doesnt have power to boost any further, it jerks. However giving it more gas would eventually break though that point at about 3000rpms and you cant feel the power back where it should be.
Between 2500rps and 3000rpms this is whats happening. i hear weird noise as in hose somewhere where the air intake is at either leaking or i dono what is up but it makes a flapping rubber noise like a weird fart or something, also the air mass flow sensor it makes like a metal to metal click sound just once, like it would get stuck or something.

so i checked all the couplers and the air intake, mass flow sensor is ok, gate moves nothing is blocking it. couplers are tight and doesnt seem like any of them are ripped or leaking. i do have a small exhaust leak after down pipe..can that me the problem?? changed all of my vacuum hoses to silicone ones.
also my VTV valve where the blow off broke so i ordered a new one and waiting on it but can that mess the boost so much???
my fuel to air mixture is too rich as well, at least thats what the gauge shows.
so any ideas???heed help!!!
thanks!!

Hello,
I have been reading the boards here for a year but this is my first time posting. I have a 1991 mr2 turbo the car has a jdm swap same year. The car cranks like it's going to start but it just doesn't do anything else. I bought the car like this the guy stated that it needed the ignitor or coil replaced. I replaced everything and still doing the same thing. The car is not getting electricity from the ignitor to the spark plugs. I came to find out that the guy I bought off had recently changed the ECU to a 1993 and had to cut some cables. After he changed the computer it still
did the same thing u can hear the engine turn over but doesn't do anything else so he put the original computer in. I took it to a mechanic that says I need a new engine wiring harness because some of the cables were burnt out. Any suggestions that piece alone is 1400 from the Toyota dealer cheapest I found it for was 500 used. Any suggestions would be appreciated great site by the way. Thanks Fabian
