Did a little work to my front trunk

Posted 01-06-2008 at 12:49 AM by mr2hybrid93
since my car has been down for few months i havent let it sit much.. been working on it as much as I could. its getting so much reworked, installed, or removed heh..

well id like to share one of the things that i had done prior to all this.
first off.. i had the entire AC system already removed and i mean ALL of it.. even the metal radiator looking part inside the cooling air box behind the glove box. i also dont use the windshield sprayer much so i decided to remove the windshield fluid reservoir.

I already did the fuse box relocation out back.. and wire tuck.. so whats a little more wiring work? i looked at my frunk.. and thought lets do something about it..
so i just randomly decided to unbolt all the wiring and undo all the electric tape and plastic pieces that hold the wiring. and moved the headlight controller box the green one on the driver side all the way to the passenger side.. it all started there.

so moving that whole harness around means that i gotta shorten the wires from the fuse box to that green box and lengthen a few from the box to the driver side headlight. then.. i was like hmm.. im going to get a aftermarket wheel soon.. so no use for airbags right? so yes.. i removed ALL of it.. wiring, crash sensors, and the air bag central box part. i then rerouted the power cable that goes to the kick panel on the driver side and the brake fluid level sensor wire inside the cabin and across.

after that what i had left was my HID harness that i got from niteboy. it was another chunk of wiring i wanted to hide.. but where!? so i took a quick freehand measurement and turns out my idea would work. i ran the harness from inside the cabin so that the cluster of relays are inside and the wires just stuck out into the frunk. since theres no more air bag wires those thick yellow ones.. i used the HID wiring to make up for that extra space that i gained. passenger side of the HID harness was just perfect to come out of the hole where the stock windshield reservoir would go through. and the 2nd end of the HID harness would go across behind the radiator to the other side and be perfect length to connect to the HID ballast there.
finished product of part 1

please dont pay attention to the ghetto black painted frunk.. it was done years ago by me lol.. yes sad.. the stock red was all scratched up at the time and i just wanted to cover it up.. yea i didnt know nothing about painting.. so yes i didnt do the prep work for it.. so the black didnt even stick haha.. so fed up with it so i decided to fix that too..

soo.. now for the paint fix for the frunk. exterior color was viper red.. so i ordered viper red from paintscratch.com came SUPER fast. that was the easy part.. of course prep work is the hardest and most important part in painting. which i now learned haha..
had the brake master, proportioning valve, and clutch master removed.
so went to pick up klean-strip paint stripper.. worked pretty well but didnt get all of the paint off. so well i had to bust out my wire brush and die grinder =) speedy paint removal and did it a lot cleaner.. but the paint stripper worked well too.

laid down some primer AFTER checking that the bare metal was all smooth and cleaned ( mineral spirits). checked for any defects.. made sure that was good.. and laid down the color in several passes. came out quite nice for a "better" than before spray can job. and its color matched to the exterior now so i accomplished 2 goals.. get rid of the black and color match to the outside.

laid down the clear coat in several layers.. and now waiting for it to cure before i put all the wiring and parts back in.

results after part 2
