MK1 C52 vs E51 clutch area

I have a 1989 MK1 na with some grinding on the 1-2 shift. I picked up a E51 spare trans, I realize the ratio's for 3, 4 and 5 are different. I have gone through many posts and I want to verify that my current MK1 clutch plate and flywheel are not compatable with using the E51 transmission.
