T3 Install -5SFTE

Ugh.. I hope I don't miss any of the stupid things I did.

Ok, First thing was installing the intercooler again; removed side engine bay cover, moved throttle cable, installed bottom bracket (cant put it back with the bottom bracket attatched) slipped (har) in the intercooler bolted on the fan and top bracket; then somehow got a ziptie in the bottom bracket to stop it from shaking too much.

(That was alot harder than i made it sound.. I must have big hands or something?)

Next, rest fitting the turbo assmembly..

First, Second, Third try.. FAIL

Wastegate actuator in the way.. when moved rod binded on actuator or exhaust manifold.

After bending the wastegate actuator bracket AND the rod (to increase length) then adding a couple washers between the bracket and turbo housing.. we got the wastegate opening and closing decently (under like 15 psi of air, not sure how much is required to open it when there is exhaust pushing too).

Finally, we (my father and I) mounted the turbo and tightened the bolts. (Yay!)

So my dad and I decide we need to crank the engine with the spark plugs d/c (just unplugged the distributor cap supply, i think thats what its called) and see if the turbo was cycling oil through at all.

We cranked it a couple seconds and nothing happened, so we did it again.. eventually we decided to power up the engine.

When I started it I immediately hear my dad say CUT IT!!!

I jump into the driver seat again and turn the key.. Then I hop out an ask him, what happened? Look, he says, pointing the oil drenched firewall.. (guess what happened yet?)

NO OIL FILTER LOL!!!!!

What a dumb mistake rofl.. but I'm glad we got it started at that point caus it was great to hear the 5sfe roar without any exhaust!

After that it was really just a matter of hooking up all the intake pipes (and getting the turbo end of the oil return on.. another PITA)

Finally we cranked it up and woot, no oil in the exhaust, but it was hella rich. The engine bay was smoking like crazy since everything was soaked in oil..

OH I FORGOT

When i took the dipstick out to recheck the oil level after adding some more.. the little guide thing came out of the oil pan.. >_< ANOTHER PITA to get that back in.. all these stupid problems waste so much time.

We drove around ~5-6 miles and when i opened the engine bay at the gas station the golf tees we put in the coolant supply and return (actually only the ... well i think it was the return but my dad said it was the supply) the golf tee was boiling! haha so that was scary..

Seems to spool slow (I didnt really stomp on it yet since I don't know the AFR) my BOV is also makin funny noises.. we'll see if my rigging the wastegate actuator to the intake manifold is going to work.. else pop goes my engine!

Thanks for reading!

-Stuart
