NEED HELP, STRANGE ISSUE!!!

Posted 05-01-2008 at 03:02 PM by wrestle149
My 92 MR2 Turbo is acting very strange. This problem has been growing worse and worse. basically what happens is the car feels like it's completely holding back but wants to go. If I press on the gas rather quickly, there is a constant hesitation...the Turbo spools just fine but the car basically wont go and its takes a while to work up a good speed. i basically have to ease onto the accelerator. This becomes very frustrating when i get onto a freeway or go up a hill. i tried cleaning the whole fuel system and got no change, there isnt anything clogging the exhaust and one other thing i can think of is that maybe my EGR valve needs to be replaced.....Does anyone have some insight????

sounds like it could be a boost leak. you never know but it took me awhile to figure that was my problem. your problem sounds like what mine was doing.

I had the same problem. REALLY annoying!!
You're right - it really wants to go, but it would barely creep off the line. I finally took it in and it was the clutch.

sound like what you said 91mr2t a boot leak it may also be a vacumm line may have a leak there are a nuber of thing that it could be doing but if your engine doesnt run funny and its haveing a problem going the cluch can be burned out theres one of a few ways you can tell one if your engine while in gear and moveing about 20mph and then you gun it and your engine rev up but you dont move any fast that is one way the other way is smell you can smell a transmission burning smell from under the hood too anuther way is the burn look or the smell of your fliud too you can test to see if you have a vaccum leak by getting a tester and you can test the lines you can get one at perty much any auto store. but i would push more tords the cluch/ fly wheel if the problem got worse over a short time becase a vacumm leak mostly starts and it is vary notasble and dont change in a short time unless there melting...then you whould smell the burn ass smell
