Sleepy Eyes For Less Than $5(DIY)

I have seen people wondering how to do it without a big cost....so here is my how to.


Things needed.
-18ga. or 16ga. wire(10ft)
-Toggle switch
-Electric tape or Butt connectors and crimps

Ok i have changed it from how i originally had it posted due to new info i found while fooling with the box and wires and comments people have made..

Ok first locate the control module for your lights.(little black box under your master cylinder screwed onto you driver side strut tower inside your frunk(front trunk)..

Unplug your box and locate the thick red wire with a green line ,cut it about 2 inches from the plug,..... now move on to your switch(the purchased one)run a ground for the switch to any ground on your car,run a 12volt positive to the switch from any 12volt positive on your car,and run a wire from the switch to your red wire with green line on you plug for your box,be sure to seal all bare wires,then plug the box back in.

To operate.... turn on the switch,....then turn on your lights like normal.give them a second to start to raise or lower then be quick to turn off your toggle switch and your lights with stop going up...thaaa daaaa yo have sleepy eyes...

ok to explain the best i can..the switch supplies power to your motors,so if you leave the switch off,... your headlights will still turn on and off by your headlight switch on you steering wheel, but the motors will stay put in sleepy eyes or open or closed as long as the switch stays off,therefore once you have them set,they will stay...to put them down or up or sleepy ,...simply engage the power switch and turn them off or on and they will operate as normal..

If there is anything else people would like to know about,how to wire up anything on your car ask.I am pretty good at wire'n up lights ,switches,steroes,speakers,amps and other crazy stuff....I have been doing it for about 8 years now.

this is cool, guys on ebay want $90 for a pivet controller, and this is way cheaper

You should do a write-up taking pictures at every step and they would definetly sticky it

one thing about this mod guys......

I had one with a momentary switch (easier than a toggle switch) but you would have to turn it off at the right time or the headlights won't go to the desired height. Every time I did it, it would take me 2 or 3 tries to get it right and it was annoying. Plus, every time you turn on your lights, the headlight control computer will reset the settings. The only thing cool about this, is you can turn your headlights up for the look in daytime without your lights being actually turned on.

The pivot controller is nifty because you can adjust the height of headlights height with the turn of a knob, and once you get to your desired height, then its set and you don't have to screw with it anymore. The only thing I didn't like about the pivot controller, was you had to have your lights turned on for the controller to work. So the lights are on all the time when you have your lamps up.

Sleepy lights are not my kinda things but couldnt you just use a cheap dimmer light switch (i assume this is what you are pivot switch sounds like one). and wire it so that it will control the motor directly and then the headlamp knob just controls the lights power (lights on or off no motor control).

Sorry if I sound like a idiot lol, not my thing so never looked into it. just my 2 cents on the idea.

I know a way to do it for $0.
1.Take the relay switch out for the headlight lift.
2.Turn your head light switch on.
3.Tap the relay plugs on the outlet until they are at desired height.
4.Leave relay out of socket.
5.Adjust beam angle to regular height and angle.

I do not reccommend doing this if you drive in the middle of nowhere b/c the amount of light is greatly diminished. I do not recommend leaving it this way if you drive mostly at night. If you do, it may be best to not adjust the angle and just put your relay back in when it is close to dark. This practice works best on RX7s b/c the actual headlight housing raises rather than pivoting.

after reading the post, seems like even with the toggle switch wired in you would still have to keep trying to get them at the right angle.
with the celica st184, we can do the sleepy eye too without wiring nothing in. but it is still a headache trying to get it at the right spot.
i dont know if it will work with the sw20's, but this is how we do it:
first turn your headlights on and then turn them off. if you turn your headlights back on really quickly (right before the lights starts going down), you could get the lights to stay in that same spot as it goes down. continue until headlights are at the disired spot then leave the stock headlight switch on the first notch (the notch where you could leave your headlights up but not on). this process is all about timing, if you don't get it right, the lights would just go down.

That dont work on our cars. They just go all the way down.

Couldnt you just use a dimmer knob to do the same thing as a pivot controller if you used it in conjunction with the OPs method?

Sort of like a set it and forget it thing?

if you want it for 0$...

then all you have to do is pop open the frunk and manually turn the knobs until you reach the desired height,

(For some reason I did this and know my lights are messed up, when i turn the lights on the left stays down and the right goes up, and when i turn the lights off the left goes up and the right goes down....I tried turning the knobs again but its not working,
anyone know how to fix this problem?)

This post is the easiest way to do sleepy eyes.you dont have to get out the car or open your trunk to change the position of the lights....so enjoy.
